Question about Western Digital 500GB My Book World Edition 500 GB Hard Drive
I open up my pictures folder in my External Hard Drive today and the
file names are all messed up. When I click on them, I get error message
saying it is not accessible. I tried to change my language setting from Chinese to English and
change back to Chinese again, but it doesn't help at all :/ Does anyone
know how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.
Here is the image of how the folder looks like :/
Prior to this problem, I remember having a blue screen checking up the files. I immediately shut my computer off because the blue screen looked like as if it was constantly saying there were errors or something.. so yeah :s
Also, I can't even delete the folders >.<
Please help, thanks in advance.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

If not removed safely, external devices can lose information when disconnected.
I recommend using a free recovery tool called Handy Recovery which is normally used to recover files accidentally files on a PC. The application can also be used to try and recover files on your external HD.
Handy recovery: http://www.handyrecovery.com/download.shtml (look for the small button near the bottom that says 'Freeware')

The error messages don't hint at permission problems, they hint that the filenames contain characters that serve as shell delimiters.
I suspect an "rm -rf" of the top-level folder in question will sidestep this issue and delete the files for you.

Problem: Folders / files in USB flash drive got named with weird strange characters & those folder / files cannot be copied or deleted.
Reason: Virus infected
1. Click on "Computer"
2. Right click on the drive that contains USB flash drive
3. Select "properties"
4. Click on "Tools"
5. Click on "Check Now"
6. Check disc options will appear on screen, put a tick mark in the box in front of Automatically fix file system errors
7. Tick mark in the box in front of Scan for & attempt recovery of bad sectors is not necessary.
8. Click on "Start"
9. Upon finishing of this task, screen will show message "Your device disc was successfully scanned" and bla bla. Close it.
10. After this process the undeletable folder in USB flash drive can be deleted by selecting it & deleting it. The contents of affected folders files cannot be recovered.
After lot of struggle I got this solution on my own by the grace of God.
Sure it will work for others too.
Thanks and regards Raju
