Question about Everex StepNote VA2000T Notebook PC - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2080 1.73GHz, 802.11b/g Wireless, 512

Everex stepnote VA2001T won't boot

It's a Stepnote VA2001T, 15.4" wide screen, 1.73GHz dual core, 2 gigs ram, 80gb hard drive, DVD-ROM, wireless connectivity, windows Vista.

when power is turned on only the power and wireless lights come on and the Hard Drive light blinks momentarily the screen does not come on and connecting to an external monitor has been unsuccessful as well.

the laptop is a little more than a year old and was missing several screws from the bottom causing one corner to open up, it was occasionally doing the above boot problem over the last year but would boot normally if left off for an hour or two. Then recently it was accidentally bumped into the desk and booted about twice normally before doing this every time after.

please give any helpful information you can. Thanks.

My computer will only see 950mb of 2gb of ram installed. anyone know of a solution?

Power OFF computer and swap the memory modules with each other.
If you have two modules, swap them. If you have one module, remove and re-seat it.

If you have more than one module, they may be different.
Boot with only one module, test and then the other modules, one at a time.

Everex StepNote NC1503 Blank Screen

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp, follow this to determine the fault.
To determine if you have a LCD screen problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

2 short beeps at startup

Two beeps is an indication of a memory problem. Try re-seating the RAM, you may need to replace one or more of the memory modules.
Re-seating is the first thing to try.
Good luck with this.

Everex Stepnote NC1500 wont boot

Are there any other lights on or any other activity, or does it just die? If it only pops up with the hard drive light briefly then dies, your laptop might just be dying because the battery isn't holding a charge.

New operating system

When starting the computer, you need to enter the boot menu or set the machine to boot from the CD drive before the hard drive in the bios or utilities set up. Once you've done this, be sure the disc is in the drive upon start up. Then follow the directions.Keep in mind that the XP disc may not have all of the drivers or your machine, so you will have to go to Everex's support site and download them. You can see which drivers you may need in the device manager. Also, when updating XP, only install service pack 2, do not install three, it has issues and is really not needed.
