Question about Gateway DLP56TV 56" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

DLP lamp won't stay on

I have a Gateway 56" dlp same as the Vizio RP56.
When I turn the tv on the lamp will only light up for a couple seconds then turn off. I have cleaned all the fans and they all turn on. I checked the color wheel and that turns on. The status indicator lights on front show a lamp error but I replaced the lamp and it still does the same thing.

I have the same problem. I have been web searching for a service/repair manual & had no luck.

  • dkdirt63 Jan 05, 2009

Hey that's a better manual than I found for the Vizio. It was only 26 pages and worthless. I'm not sure how that lamp works if the ballast just lights it once and it stays on or if it keeps igniting it, My lamp comes on for maybe 4 or 5 seconds then turns off and then the tv restarts several seconds later.

Brand new bulb not lighting on Vizio rp56 DLP

  • ILYA3D Mar 18, 2009

Hey, guys! Two things I found out. I checked my lamp phillips E23 is 100v. That was the problem!!! Ballast is 100V-120V. That is why my Tv was shooting down after couple minutes and restarts it self. So. I bought new lamp OSRAM 100v-120v, now it works great!!! But it always budd...Now TV after 1hour of work shows weird colors like negative photo picture and has some sound, than again shots himself. I'm for sure this is Optical Block(color whell). So, If anyone had the same problem share some experience with us. Sorry for spelling.

After 2 hours of web searching, I finally found a service repair manual. Below is the link to the site. After scanning this manual, beginning on pg 61 is the troubleshooting guide. It sounds like the problem is the ballast if the lamp checks out ok. Let me know your thoughts after looking at this and hopefully the both of us can work together & come up with the right solution on how to fix our problem with our 56" Gateway DLP.

SOURCE: replaced bulb for Vizio rp56 DLP got power no light

There are interlocks that will prevent the set from starting if the lamp is not installed correctly or if the access door is not closed properly. Either condition will result in a "lamp error" indication. Try reinstalling the lamp being careful to be suer that it is seated properly. Also make sure that the access door is fully closed and aligned. If you continue to get the lamp error, it is possible that the ballast circuit is defective. This is the part that generates the power to "fire" the lamp.

The description sounds like a protection mode has been activated and the smoke obviously confirms this. Sounds like it will need to be inspected by a service technician and could get expensive

Please Help. I have a 56" DLP Samsung and the lights just flash

Sounds like the lamp might be burned out. The Lamp should be replaced every couple years. If they are not replaced they will eventually burn out. Replacement is not that difficult and just requires a screwdriver. The lamp is located at the back of the DLP TV on the left side. The lamp can be purchased online from Samsung for about $130 dollars. You might be able to find a aftermarket one for less. Just use your telivision's model number located on the right side of the TV on sticker to cross reference the bulb that is needed or there might be a sticker on the back at the lamp housing that has the lamp part number. And make sure to spend the extra money and get the Lamp with the housing together. You can buy just the lamp for cheaper but that will require you to remove the old lamp from the housing and they are fragile. Much easier installation with the housing/lamp combo.

My Samsung DLP hln567w tv has NO picture on all

If the Lamp ignites and stays lit, but screen is completely black, not even the on screen display, then it is likely a bad DMD board.

If the lamp ignites and then turns off after a couple seconds then it is likely the color wheel is seized.

If the lamp never fires, but the TV clicks a bunch of times, then it could be a bad Ballast or the Lamp itself.

50? Samsung DLP TV Model #HLR-5067W

Did you use an original replacement lamp or an aftermarket replacement? From the price you give, it sounds like an aftermarket lamp, which are notoriously buggy and the problem may be with the lamp. If not, the lamp driver is your next likely culprit. It is also called a lamp power supply or lamp ballast.
