Question about Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player

2 Answers

No Disk! After renting Handcock I found my BDP s300 needed a firmware update to play. Since I have watched Handcock and Death Race. I put in Kung FU panda and the player says no disk. I tried Other Blurays that worked previously and same error. I have unpluged the player for 30 min. Still same problem

I just upgraded to Firmware 4.20 and same thing happened. No Disc error. What firmware did you upgrade to?

Same problem for me, only I upgraded to 4.4. Interestingly, I too performed the upgrade after trying to watch Hancock.

You need to get the previous firmware from their site and downgrade it. The new firmware is probably having issues with some older media. I just got a Samsung and in the manual there was a section on media compatibility that said media compatibility was not guaranteed and not all discs are guaranteed to work. I think the standard is still going through changes that may render some discs unplayable while enabling others that were not supported before.
Check the Sony site to see if they have older firmware available. If not you may need to contact tech support and report the issue so they can release a new update that addresses the issue you are experiencing.

Cheers

Will your machine play standard movie DVD discs? if it does then the laser pickup assembly is the problem. The blue ray discs require a higher precision tracking to offer better resolution.

Have purchased Terminator Salvation and 2012 on bluray, both Sony discs, they load and go to menu screen, however the icons to allow you to play or scene select etc do not appear, menu just plays over and...

Most likely you need to 'flash' (update) your BDP-S300's firmware. I had the same issue while trying to play AVTR in my BDP-S300. I downloaded Sony's latest firmware update, burned it to disc and popped the disc into the player... It takes 5-10 minutes for the 'flashing' to take place. AVTR now works in my player... Had to do this with one other Blu-ray movie about 18 months ago also.

Download the latest firmware version for the BDP-S300 here...

My sony BR BDP-S300 will not play the firmware update disk I just burned. This is my 3rd try at burning one.

On the instruction page, there was a link to sony to get a free firmware upgrade disc. try that. I did. downloading seemed to complicated and it said on that page that it must be down right the first time or there could be big problems.

Kung Fu Panda not loading

try to get the reset process from samsung. They have been horrible as far as putting out great players. If they put as much time in players as the do tv's, you wouldnt have this problem.

Try getting the latest firmware for your model. If your player is in warranty, see if you can get it in.I really believe they do a much thorough update at the factory.

You might have bad software from the manufacturer. They are pretty fast getting it back.

I got mine back in 5 days.

Blue ray player wont play blue ray ''Kung Fu Panda'' disc.

i fixed this exactly as previous posted solutions, however a couple of points.
a) recordable CDs work if you don't have a DVD burner.
b) I didn't have a CD burner that would do an "image burn", I downloaded a free copy of "Express Burn" and that worked fine. The disk needs to be "finalised" or "fixated", it should do this automatically, or it may be a tick box selection.
c) I got a "No DWLD 09" when I put the disk into the player. I found this was an incompatibility with the CD-R (Maxwell) I was using. I changed to JVC and it worked fine.

Sony blu ray

Dear hoagie69,

I found out on the internet that there is a BDP-S300 Firmware Update last modified on 6/20/2008.

It requires downloading a file and burning it on to a CD-R. Then you would load it into your Blu-Ray Disc Player to upgrade the version you currently have.

If you are successful in updating, your 21 Blu-Ray Disc should work. It finally worked for me.

The link you will need to go to in order to download the file for the update is:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=BDPS300&upd_id=3590&os_id=7
Hope this helps you. Boy, am I glad that I can finally watch the 21 movie!
