Question about Honeywell CT87B ROUND HEATING&COOLING MECHANICAL THERMOSTAT - WHITE Heater

1 Answer

My heat wont turn off

I installed a honeywell thermostat in my house last summer. I've installed thermostats before and never had any problems but this one is a nightmare i went threw like 3 before i found one to work with all he wires. i eventually found a more up to date version of what it originally had. well now i turn on my heat and it runs fine except for it wont cut off but the E-heat works just fine and cuts off and th a/c works just fine. i've checked and double checked and the wiring is correct to the best of my knoweledge.I need to figure this out without another $200 bill from the hvac men. Heat comes on but won't cut off. Trying to find info to set Cycles Per Hour (CPH) or heat spread on this thermostat. The Heating & Cooling is a Single stage heat pump ... Straight Electrical and old as the hills. It's on top of the roof so I don't know the make and model of the pump. Bought and was going to replace it with a Honeywell TH5110D  digital unit ... but seeing the wiring in this thermostat don't think I''ll chance it. Too cold to be without heat for three of four days.

I just purchased a home and ran the Honeywell RTH3100 ac in the summer just fine. Ran the heat and I noticed the batt low was on. At the time i also noticed that the fan was not turning off. The heat would come on and heat the house and when the desired temp was met the heat would cut off but the fan would stat on and blow cool air. I changed the batteries and noticed it cut of once right afterwards. I have to remove the faceplace from the thermostat to cut off the fan. I am a new homeowner and have no knowledge of heat pumps and thermostats YET!!!

The actuall unit never goes off. It will reach the temperature set and then cool air will come out and cool the house back down and then the heat comes back on. Quite an expensive issue!

I have a Rheem Classic Super Quiet 80 gas furnace (for heat). The fan stops when the "heat" turns on.

Any time I ever had trouble, first thing to suspect is the thermostat.
They lose contact sometimes and sometimes you tap the face and they work til next glitch.
If the thermostat has some years on it,go ahead and replace it.
Can't you just leave the heat and fan in auto? That would be best,I think. don-ohio

Our thermastat won't let us reset the temp. it says its locked, we have no idea what that means or how to fix it, or even it that's the problem. our furnace thermostat.

What type of thermostat do you have?
You can call the company that installed it to get the over ride password or how to reset the thermostat so you can control the temperature

I have a 9610 thermostat turns on and off to frequently

I am guessing but the thermostat is either faulty or is in conflict with another thermostatic device in the system. The room thermostat measures the air temperature in the room but with a modern intelligent boiler there will be other sensors measuring all sorts of things including the water temperature.

Personally I prefer to have thermostatic radiator valves rather than a room or zone thermostat.

My thermostat is set on 68 degrees and it shows room temperature is 68, but the furnace still kickson, Honeywell said it has a 1 degree difference. so what's the problem then?

Yes there is a one degree tolerance, in fact my heater just kicked on and it is set to 67 and the inside temperature reads 67. It is also a Honeywell.

My termost set to a/c, the fan auto, blow very well, but when I switch to heat and the fan auto, doesn't work, but if I put fan on work why?

the thermostat says to call for heat buildup in the work if its not cold enough the thermostat won't call for heat and I won't go on but when it gets cold and the thermostat set to the temperature you want or hire someone that doesn't cycle

Why can't I lower my honeywell 8500 below 67 on cool?

With a two story house you have to be aware that cold air flows downwards so any cold air coming from an ac unit will flow downstairs( normally down the stairway) so unless you can close off the down stairs then the up stairs unit will be cooling downstairs as well. Ac units have a thermostat located in the air intake and it cools until the cold air has risen to that point. In effect the space above the ac unit will be hotter than the floor. Knowing how they work ,you can see that the upstairs unit will never reach the set temperature because the cold air is continually heating from the house and will never get to the top thermostat.
So your solutions are
1-- fit controls that restrict the cold air from leaving the upper floor (Doors)
2--don't run the upper ac unit unless you are living up there (waste of money
)3 place an ac in each upper room and keep the room door closed

I have a Coleman Evcon electric furnace, the blower fan runs constantly and I have to shut the breaker off inside the front cover to turn it off. The switch is on auto and it runs even when the thermostat...

It could be a thermostat problem. Also it will seem to run constantly as it tries to heat and one of the elements are working which could be a sequencer problem.
