  • peach258 Dec 29, 2008

thank you very much for your assistance, I tried everything you suggested (syst, res. was active & auto) but still not working, goes to preparing to restore then immediately shuts down , when it comes up tells me not restored, try again. Do you think if i download new drivers from Acer that would help? thanks again.

Hello, Troubleshoot System Restore:

Some common problems that could cause System Restore not to work properly and their solutions include the following:
• There is less than 200 MB of free space available on the computer—free up some space on the hard drive by deleting unused files or images.
• After rebooting, the restoration is unsuccessful—choose an earlier restore point and try again.
• Restoration was denied due to non-administrator status—log out and then back in as an administrator.
• The System Restore Service is not running—Open Administrative Tools, click Computer Management, and then click Services and Applications. Click Services, and double-click System Restore Services from the list. Verify the service is started and running. If not, under Service status, click Start and change the startup type to Automatic.

Hello peach258, Possible. But I suggest to reinstall your Windows. There's something in your windows files that might be corrupted. There will be no worries if you Repair your Windows using your WinXP disc. You don't have to worry about your saved files in your harddrive, it will not be deleted because you'll just Repair it and not to install a fresh copy of windows. After Repairing your windows, Reinstall your system drivers.

*Drop me a comment if you have problems. Thanks.

The error message says fatal system error.

Hi. The STOP 0xC000021A error occurs when either Winlogon.exe or Csrss.exe fails. When the Windows NT kernel detects that either of these processes has stopped, it stops the system and raises the STOP 0xC000021A error. This error may have several causes. Among them are the following:
  • Mismatched system files have been installed.
  • A Service Pack installation has failed.
  • A backup program that is used to restore a hard disk did not correctly restore files that may have been in use.
  • An incompatible third-party program has been installed.
Booting the computer to its Last known good configuration will resolved the issue. Please see procedure below:

Turn of the computer
Keep on tapping F8 key the moment you press the power button
You should be getting a advanced boot screen
Select Last known good configuration from the selections then hit enter
Computer should be booting up by now to windows

All the best!

Hi

Thank you for your query

Please try the folowing

Please try the following

1) Start Laptop
2) Continuously press the F8 key until a startup menu is repsented
3) Choose safe mode from the menu
4) Once safe mode has loaded up click on Start>Programs>Accesories>System Tools>System Restore
5) From system restore choose 'restore my computer to an earlier time'
6) From the calender presented please select a dat in bold lettering back a few weeks before this fault was seen
7) Choose the date and click next..............follow the instructions through

If the system restore fails as above then unfortunatley you will need to purchase a copy of windows and reinstall by putting the CD into the drive and rebooting the laptop

I own an acer travelmate 290, and getting no display on monitor.

First check to see if your PC has a built in factory restore, or system recovery, usually available using CTRL & F12, F10, etc. Check your manual, if you don't then, OK try this, Startup PC, press F8 at instant of turn on... choose Safe Mode. when you are asked if you want safe desktop or system restore choose restore, when you get to the restore menu, choose a date BEFORE you had problems there may only be one or two to choose from. just follow the instructions and you should be back to working with all that behind you. If that doesn't work, boot up on your Windows DVD and do a "Repair Install", If thats doesn't work do a format and a reinstall.
