I'm receiving a 300 error msg when trying to print wirelessly to my
MP620 from my MacBook, running 10.4.11. I use the D-Link as
my wireless router. I see the printer on my printer list as my default
printer. The printer works fine if I want to print a test page from the Printer Setup Utility. But that's the ONLY thing that I can print. Trying to print from ANY application (Pages, Safari, Firefox, TextWrangler, NeoOffice, PDF) produces only the Error 300 message.
The Printer Setup Utility shows my printer is set up wireless and all appears fine.
But, in the System Preferences panel, the Print & Fax setup shows the MP620 Location as "Directly attached via USB". Which it is not. And I can't figure out how to change that. I think this might be the real problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks
Hi
I had exactly the same problem. Here is how I solved it.
I deleted all the previously installed items (although this might not actually be necessary). Then I re-installed using the 'Easy Instal' option from the CD.
The CRUCIAL part is this: - after you have tested your connection to the printer - and it is all fine - another box should appear with a MAC address for the Scan Twain. Highlight the string of numbers and click APPLY.
THEN THE MOST IMPORTANT BIT - look at page 54 in the set-up guide. And follow the instructions which are:
When the printer utility opens click ADD - then go to 'more printers' select the MP620 with the string of numbers after it. This is the one you want NOT the one that appears automatically when you complete the installation.
make this printer your default and away you go! That should work as it has for me and i have been pulling my hair out on this for about 3 weeks!
Actually, I'm just clarifying Solution #2 - that IS the correct answer, but it could be stated a bit more clearly, at least under Snow Leopard. This is what was originally written:
When the printer utility opens click ADD - then go to 'more printers'
select the MP620 with the string of numbers after it. This is
the one you want NOT the one that appears automatically when you
complete the installation.
Here's how I would rephrase it:
Under Mac OS X 10.6, go to System Preferences:Print & Fax. Click '+' to add a new printer, select Default in the top, left corner of the Add Printer window, then wait for 15-30 seconds. You'll see another Canon printer appear on the list, with a string of numbers after its name. This is
the one you want, NOT the one which is already there when you first click Default. After you select that printer (do a Test Page to verify it works), you can go back and edit it, trimming the name down by cutting off the string of numbers; doing so will not affect the printer's operation. :)
Delete the printer and then add it back. That fixed it for me.

I have a very similar problem. I cannot print from Safari or Firefox, although the printer will print a test page just fine, and the computer appears to recognize the printer over the wireless network just fine. I reinstalled the drivers from canon's website to see if that would help (no).
I can print from textedit as well. Just not via web. I have a macbook pro using Leopard 10.5.6.
"Error Number : 306 A communication error has occurred. Make sure that the printer is plugged in, powered-on, and properly connected to your computer. Then try printing again."
The printer also works fine from a Windows machine, which I was able to print from with no problems. Both the mac & pc use the same wireless network.
This error showed up today after I printed 4 pages from google maps (from the macbook, where the problem occurred 20 minutes later). It worked fine earlier; I suspected the internet went down, so I restarted my computer. No dice; turned printer off & on; removed printer & reloaded drivers. I'm stuck there. Any ideas?
