Question about Sony BRAVIA KDL-V40XBR1 40 in. LCD HDTV
I have this Panasonic system hooked to my TV; i cannot get the DVD portion on the home theater system to work and the surround sound feature does not seem to work correctly the volume of the suurond system needs to be turned all the way up to hear it in the speakers ( i would think the volume of the SS should correspond with the level of the TV)

SOURCE: crackling noise from tv
That crackling noise has nothing to do with the television and everything to do with your antenna. It is merely signal breakdown, when you get signal interference with analogue tv you get snow, with digital you get little squares on the screen and/or sound breaking and cutting in and out, get a licensed antenna repairer to come out check your signal strength as you may need a booster or your antenna could just be a few degrees off....

just plug your satellite and dvd player in to your tv. and simply take an extra set of red, white, yellow wires and us use the red and white wires to connect fron your tv output to your surround sound system's input. now you should have surround sound for everything included local tv stations from your tv antenna

Testimonial: "this worked perfectly...thanks for all your help!! made my day!!"
Problems relating to the automatic turn on and turn off of a set like this usually point to the main board being an issue. For this set, I believe Sony refers to that board as the "AU" board.
It's probably not the G/Power Supply board, especially if it turns itself on. Power supplies will turn a set off, but rarely--rarely--turn itself on.
If there's no kind of extended warranty involved here,
you could be looking at $500.00 for parts and labor to repair this kind of problem.
As always, try any software/firmware updates Sony might have available on their website prior to pursuing a repair visit.

Tap the "Theater" button on the remote. You should see either "Theater Mode: On" or "Theater Mode: Off". If it is off, tap it again to turn it on and wait for it to go away. Now tap again (should say "Theater Mode: On") and then press and hold it for about a second. This should actually turn it off, as opposed to just pretending to. Works on my larger Sony KDL.
