Question about PC Desktops

HP Media Center 864n

My dvd/cd drive will notice any disk but a PC DVD ROM. It is a game. Should I be worried? I have loaded other games since such as Webb Foot, ect. Should I just take it back and get my money or is there a way to check for the reason it will not be seen by my DVD/CD writer drive?

Turns out, I lost a little programming on my C drive. I requested the firmware for this DVD/CD drive and that fixed it. Thanks for your help, anyway.

There is probably a problem with the disk, since you can use other disks. try cleaning the face of the disk using some form of cleaner. mathanol etc. then give it a try. if cleaning it does not work then this may be a damaged disk. just take it back and ask for a refund.

The problem is most likely that you do not have a DVD reader installed in your PC. If you look on the front of you cd-rom it will say DVD if it can read DVD's. Most stores will not give you a refund for software that has already been opened. It is fairly easy and inexpensive to install a DVD reader in your PC, probably in the range of $30.00 to $60.00 depending on the brand you purchase. I would go ahead and purchase and install the DVD reader since more and more games and other software is now being put on DVD's.

How to put games on laptop without downloading them what web sites could i use

If you have a DVD/CD Rom drive this should be easy. Just purchase a game either on-line or a in a local computer retail shop. Insert the DVD/CD game and it will automatically load the installer. There's a lot of sites you can go, try going to Amazon or Ebay.

I cannot get my DVD Rom drive to recognize any DVD

You need to install the DVD decoder that came with the drive such as PowerDVD or WinDVD. If you dont have the disks or setup files for those, you can download a free Windows DVD player program such as VLC Media Player that will work. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

I have an e-machines with a dvd/cd-rom in one that will not work.

i understand that your pc has a single dvd-drive that has the problem that it dos read dvds but not cds...
please give model because this is a rare error.
to check it, get the following disks and the freeware program 'burnatonce' (it is a burning software that accesses the drives on a lower than windows basis )
to check from the hardware side what the problem is:

install burnatonce
run it
open tools/device info
and check if the following disc are really recognized or not

a standard music cd(audio cd)
a computer cd(original ! windows install cd or other install cd)
a self burnt cd containing mp3's (CD-R type, 700MB or800MB)
any other computer cd for pc

an original film dvd
a selfburnt film dvd (DVD-R)
an original computer-data dvd (any PC-Game will do)

if only dvd's work, strange!

get a new drive then.

My emachines dvd rom is not detecting a dvd in the drive

Dissamble the dvd rom from pc. Open it and clean the laser with a soft cloth or try a dvd lens cleaner disk. You can buy it from any hardware shop. Connect the cables correctly. Start with a fresh dvd disk. If your pc still can't detect dvd disc, replace dvd rom with a new one.

I get a please insert the correct DVD-ROM when I try to play the Ironman & Hulk pc game

first of all, is this game running from your harddrive or the dvd rom??? if u are running from the harddrive, then you will need a application to make the os think is running from a dvd rom drive, this is typical when the game is downloaded. if u have the original dvd disk, then your firmware of the dvd rom may need to be updated, or most likely theres an issue with the firmware, and you might need to purchase and up to date dvd rom.
