I occasionally have a sewer gas smell near my washer. But after I run the washer, the smell will go away for a few days. What could the problem be?

Hi Joe

Is that pex pipe on the right your water supply to the washer?

Your sewer gas smell I believe can be eliminated by putting a P trap in the drain PVC line.

(EDIT)
Where the drain hose from the washer hooks into the PVC pipe is NOT airtight which would allow the sewer gas back into the laundry room!

(EDIT EDIT)
If there is a P-trap in your outflow pipe, the only place left for grey water to collect (and stink) would be between the washer and where the waste hose goes into the drain. We've had to use a little bit of bleach on occasion when we haven't used the washer for a bit.
Hope this helps

You can purchase the tubing at most hardware stores or any HVAC supply store. They carry the vinyl plastic tubing and pvc pipe for drain lines.

Drain inside house from a c is over flowing.central air

I am a certified HVAC Technician. I have worked in the field since 1996. I have seen this hundreds of times, if not a thousand times, in the past. Every central air conditioning and heat pump system comes with TWO drain pans, The MAIN drain pan is located within the AIR HANDLER (blower) UNIT, while the EMERGENCY DRAIN PAN is extremely LARGE and sits under the ENTIRE AIR HANDLER (blower) UNIT. The ONLY time water will be INSIDE an EMERGENCY DRAIN PAN is when the MAIN DRAIN PAN condensate drain line is CLOGGED, causing the MAIN DRAIN PAN to overflow. What causes the drains pans OR the drain lines to become clogged is slime and scale from the condensate water as well as debris from within the attic that may have either been blown by the air or may have simply have fallen into the emergency drain pan; or some insects from the out of doors have traveled up into the PVC Drain line and built a nest on the downward side of the P-trap. The P-trap is designed to prevent critters from entering your home through the PVC drain lines. Most CLOGS occur at the P-TRAP location.

The BEST thing to do is:

1. Locate the WHITE PVC drain pipe outside your house and ensure there is NO water draining from it.

2. Locate the same WHITE PVC drain pipe inside your house. You should notice a "TEE" where two WHITE PVC drain pipes merge into ONE WHITE PVC drain pipe.

Follow the below steps, in the order shown:

A. FIRST, find another person to act as your second set of eyes at the end of the WHITE PVC Drain Line that is located outside of your home. That person will be looking for water or debris to EXIT the end of that WHITE PVC DRAIN LINE.

B. SECONDLY, locate the WHITE PVC "P-TRAP" inside your house. It is normally located within a couple to three feet of your indoor air handing (blower) unit.

C. THIRDLY, very gently lift the entire WHITE PVC drain line up in the air as high as you can without breaking it, and slam it down onto the rafters or attic floor or garage floor. You are attempting to dislodge the CLOG within the drain pipe WITHOUT having to actually CUT the PVC and without damaging or breaking the WHITE PVC. Depending on how old the system is, it may or may not be brittle; and it may not take much to damage or break the PVC, which will cause leaks. So, be very careful at this point.

D. Ask the person outside if anything has started to EXIT. You can ALSO usually hear water start to drain if you put your ear up to the drain line. If the person said "NO"and if you don't see the water level getting LOWER in the EMERGENCY drain pan, then REPEAT step "C" above.

E. If the person informs you that there IS water now starting to exit the WHITE PVC DRAIN PIPE, you should then wait until all water has drained from the EMERGENCY DRAIN PAN; and then pour at least 1 quart of BLEACH down that drain, from the EMERGENCY DRAIN PAN exit. The BLEACH will further clear out any SLIME which may be remaining within the "P-TRAP" and will also CLEAN OUT and DISINFECT that drain line.

If the above steps do NOT work for you, then prepare to go into the next LOGICAL phase of your attack. Please NOTE: I am limited to 10,000 characters in my response, so I'll repost additional STEPS in another RESPONSE. Good Luck!!!

While moving my samsung top washing machine, I think my drain hose pipe has moved down the water level. Now machine is not able to retain the water while washing/soaking. I need to pull the drain hose pipe...

Hi,

Although a few modern washing machines can operate with the drain pipe at any height, most machines will drain the water as soon as the drain pipe is placed below the machine water level.

The simplest solution for your problem would be to ask somebody with some handy man skills or hire a plumber to add a 2 inch PVC pipe to your drainage pipe which extends to a point behind your washing machine & then points upwards, making sure it is long enough to be at a higher point than your machines fullest water level.
This should be a relatively inexpensive alteration & will ensure that water does not drain unless the machine is on its drain cycle.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.
Best wishes,
Graeme

Colman mobile home gas furnace to use in my garage/shop

generally speaking a sealed combustion system is inherently more safe than a system that draws it's combustion air from it's ambient location. however, it cannot be considered 100% safe in a potentially hazardous location. The actual system that would be used in a "code compliant" installation would be a 100% outside air unit.
That being said, you can install this in a garage, the vent that you are referring to (if it is a standard mobile home system) is generally directly above the unit and usually no longer than about five feet. It also requires a listed and labeled termination "cap" If you install 90 degree angles or extend the vent too far you will have issues with condensation in the piping that will cause the pipe/ heat exchanger to fail prematurely.
If the system is a 90+ efficeint unit then the PVC venting is generally allowed to be about 30 feet long, with a 1/4 inch per foot pitch back to the unit for condensation, also the general mfg. instructions allow either 2- 90 degree or 4 45 degree fittings in the line. hope this helps

a naughty cure is to restrict the drain hose of the machine so water comes out a bit slower

Im having a problem desiding how to hook my drainage pipe up from the dishwasher i cant put it next to the sink cause theres no room so i have to put it on the other side of the kitchen could i connect new...

you can put a new verticle pipe up from under the floor and put the drain hose in that. make sure the vertical pipe comes up to about worktop level and make sure there is a water barrier in it or you will get a nasty smell
