Question about U.S. Robotics (USR8054) Router

Open Question

USR8054-Vista 64 compatability I have a USR 8054 home network that has worked flawlessly for years with a variety of XP computers. A new Vista 64 bit equipped Dell laptop "sees" my unsecured network as well as several others nearby but will not connect with my system. The "Connect to a network" list of available networks also shows an exclamation mark on the logo to the left of my networks name. What does that indicate?? I took the new laptop for a neighborhood ride and was able to connect on 4 other unsecured networks. A friend with an HP Vista 64 came over and was also unable to connect to my system. The diagnostics test indicates that the "Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive any response from the wireless router or access point." My old XP continues to operate on the router just fine. Any ideas???

I've been having the same problem where even hard wiring to the router won't work. I called USR and they had me reset to factory defaults. Now three days later, the same behavior is happening. I reset to factory defaults and it works again but I don't know for how long. Maybe these things just wear out after a while...who know.

Yes you should be fine. You have to configure the router before you can access the router, That should be covered in your manual. Also look for a button or switch on your computer that turn your wireless on and off. Make sure this is set to on.

SOURCE: usr8054 how to set secure Internet connection

Here's how I did it. I went to usr.com. Selected the type and model router which accesse the on-line product manual. Followed the instructions and using the cntrl-F keys search on 'password" finding the IP address to place in a new browser window address. I selected the "Basic Settings" menu then selected the password option and over-wrote the ************ showing is the Admin section and User section. Got ride of the (unsecured) indication on my icon. It was bothering me to death also. Hope this helps. danokenney@comcast.net

If you want to restrict who is able to connect to your router , "lock down", you'll need to enable WEP encryption. Here's a link to US Robotics users guide for what looks like your router, you'll have to check your model number to be sure.

Windows 7 (Beta) and Windows Vista 64 Bit. Step 1. Do not allow the autostartup to run the installation application. You must right click on the CD ROM and select the "OPEN" option. Locate the driver on the install CD. Since my DVD ROM drive is my "D:" drive I located the driver at D:\USB_VISTA32364\BACKUP_2WIRE_VISTA_USB_Installer.exe . Before you click on this you want to right click on this and select Properties. In the properties tab click on the middle tab marked "Compatibility". Make sure you select the checkmark box to: Run this program in compatibility mode for: and use the pull down menu to select Windows XP SP2. This is how I was able to get my 2wire utility to work on Windows 7 (beta) 64 Bit.

WLAN having consistant high latency with frequent all-out fail

I would suggest borrowing a different known working wireless adapter, and test trying that. Or test using a wired connection, just to prove it is the adapter. Perhaps the wireless adapter you are using is flaky.

How do i / can I connect dsl (att / motorolla modem) to USroboti

I have been working on the same problem. I found information on the router settings on the USR website http://www.usr.com/support/8054/8054-ug/three.html but after the wizzard was run and PPoE setting was set to automatic (IP is Dynamic), it still doesn't work. I believe the modem needs to be set to bridge mode, instructions for this are on AT&T's website.

Need help before buying laptop with 64-bit OS

Your router doesn't care about your OS, all it's dealing with is networking packets and protocols ant for that Vista 64bit is acting like anything else, there's no such thing on the brand new laptop market what won't work with a router via cable or wireless.
Long story short I can tell you that it will work and if there'll be a problem it wont'be 64-bit vista itself more likely the wireless password if you don't know it. Buy that laptop if you like how it looks like and what it can do for you.

Wireless doest not work (USR8054)

When you set your security, try using WEP personal as this is the most compatible with your things. Also, it is a good idea to put your computers on the network before you set your password.
