Question about Acer Aspire 5920-6727 Notebook

2 Answers

Basically last night i went to swtich it on and i got a blue error screen and it said the system needed to shut down and then it switched off. Then when i turned it on again i got the option of starting it in safe mode or normal mode, so i tried safe mode, this brought me to a black screen with the cursor on it, but the cursor wouldnt move, after a long time a grey box appeared saying there was a program error and the program needed to shut dont, and click ok to shut it down. I couldnt move the cursor so i hit enter to ok it and i got the same black screen for a long time, then it took me back to the safe mode and normal mode option screen, so tried normal mode this time and the same blue error screen appear and it shut down, so i turned it on again and then chose safe mode again and all i got was a black screen with the cursor on it and its stayed like that for about an hour now. I don't know what to do! it finally got to a system recovery page but wont let me do system restore as you normally would by selecting a restore point, but its saying i have to enter rstrui.exe/offline:c:\windows But i dont want to restore the whole system and lose everything as not only is some of my work backed up, but i do not have the back up disk of the origional hardware!

Since you don't have a restore disk for your system, take look at the following FREE option:

If you have good internet access, you can download a live Linux distribution such as Knoppix, and burn the it to CD. Don't let the word "Linux" scare you out of this, Knoppix is very user-friendly. And there is loads of resources available online. Anyway, burn the CD, and boot the computer from it. (the "F-12 key" should get you boot options, where you can select "CD Rom") It will take a little time to boot, as it is a live version running only in RAM. It has very powerful applications though, and you can access your hard drive from it so long as the drive is not corrupted beyond readability. If you can access the hard drive, you can view your files, and copy the files to a USB drive. Once you have your data, you can then shut down.
!!! Knoppix will not write to or erase any data from your hard drive without you give it permission to do so !!! It is about your safest option in that respect.

Just google Knoppix to find download sites. Most sites have instructions for downloading and burning your copy. And it's all FREE!!!

If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!

There is a possibility you may be able to get the system to come back to life using a utility called FDISK/MBR. Information is available on the Microsoft website http://support.microsoft.com/kb/69013 If you can get the system going again, I recommend you look into making the backup software disks that may be allowed in your system before you run into trouble again.

You can repair windows without deleting your files. Your files will still be intact. To do this, ff. these steps:

  • Insert your WinXP disc.
  • A message will appear saying "Press any key to boot from cd", you can press Enter key.
  • Windows will start. Wait 'til the Terms of Agreement shows Press F8 to agree.
  • There will be options to install WinXP or to use Recovery Console. In this time choose Install WinXP.
  • It will now search for your previous WinXP installation.
  • This section now let you choose whether to Install a fresh copy of WinXP OR to REPAIR your windows.
  • Choose REPAIR so that your files stored in your harddisk will not be deleted.
  • Wait 'til it finishes the installation.
*Drop a comment when done. Feel free to ask me. I will gladly assist you.

Windows wouldn't load.

always choose from the Up -down arrows the last good known configurations ..and press enter to start windows...it was probably a system crash ..or just a protective shut down from a blue screen error..those happens probably its time to reinstall your system cause it has too many issues...but usually it isn't that tragic if you just unplug or switch of from power....and restart ..but if the problem persist ..you have to reinstall or at list to run restore with a boot from cd....cause it might have system files deleted by the antivirus ..or other mistake ... anyway ...the first three otions ar efor other porposes (safe) but any of the other two ...will work just fine...just press enter ...if it doesnt work ..it mean its damaged and need reinstalation ..

ERROR MESSAGE READS...

Try starting it in safe mode. (Hold F8 after power on). If you get your icon screen go to start, run and type in msconfig. Click startup and disable all the items. Hit OK and try a normal restart. This error can be caused by a bad program starting up.
