Out of Memory on Card, but also says: Memory contains no images

I'm confused. I can't delete any images as it says the memory contains no images, but when I go to take a picture, it says the Memory Card is out of memory. I can't find a solution in the handbook. Help!!!

I think you may have deleted the folders from your memory card.  The camera could be looking for the folder to put the photo into, and this error comes up instead of one about the folder.

Deleted my images

If you haven't done anything to the memory card since then, you have a chance to recover at least some of the pictures. Do a Google search for "data recovery software" and select a program for your computer and operating system. Put the card into a card reader attached to your computer, cross your fingers, and run the program.

Memory card is full and when I plug in the USB cord and turn on the camera I get a message that my device is not connected or is busy, or that it contains no pictures!!

Causes of memory card corruption
  • Turning off a camera before an image is completely written to the memory card.
  • Removing the memory card from a camera while an image is being written to the card.
  • Removing the card from a memory card reader while files are still being transferred to a computer.
  • Batteries conking out as files are being transfered directly from the camera to a computer. Note: always make sure you have fully charged batteries before transferring images.
  • Removing the card from a card reader while folders and files from the card are open on a computer.
  • Opening, deleting, renaming or moving files on the card while its contents are open on a computer.
  • Using a memory card which has not been formatted in the camera. Use the delete/erase function when needed, however a card should be regularly formatted.
  • Formatting a card in a computer instead of the camera.
  • Inserting a second memory card into a card reader before closing and removing the first when viewing images on the card from a computer.
  • Taking photos when camera batteries are nearly empty.
  • Taking photos too rapidly so the camera can not complete writing one image before starting the next.
  • Continually shooting and deleting, shooting and deleting images when the card is full.
  • Letting a memory card get too full before downloading the images to a computer or storage device. Cards that are too full may overwrite the card headers.
  • Using a memory card from one camera in a different camera without formatting it in the new camera first.

I have a 4G Sandisk memory card which is compatible and still keep getting file contains no image data

The memory card was setup for your old camera. Try formatting the memory card using the Nikon camera's Menu settings.

When I turn on my camera it says "Format Formatting the memory will delete all data (images/voicefiles) yes no" What does this mean?

You are getting this because you have inserted a new memory card or a memory card which was used on a different device into your camera.
In order for your camera to use this card, it needs to format it. In this process the camera makes changes to the card's data storing structure to suit the camera.
If the memory card doesn't contain any data you need, answer yes.

How do i clear the internal memory from my camera. on the scean it says internal memory full

The M530 has 32 MB of internal memory, 20 MB of which can be used to store images. You delete images the same way you would if they were stored on an SD/SDHC card. Take out the SD/SDHC card if one is present (so you don't delete images on the card) and turn on the camera in Review mode (press the right-facing arrow button). Use the arrows to move forward and backward in the image list. Press the Delete button to delete them and free up the internal memory.

Hope this helps!

What if I erased the...DMCI folder in my memory card? I can no limport my pictures in my desktop because there is nothing in my memory card..

Hi,

It is not recommended to erase the DCIM Folder in the Camera as this is the root directory in the Digital Camera which contains DCIM (Digital Camera images). This DCIM Folder contains the sub directory where the images are getting saved. if the folder is deleted manually from the Computer, then the Camera will not recognize the Memory Stick inserted and the Computer also. if the folder is deleted or edited, then I suggest you to Format the Memory Stick again in the Camera using the Format option in the Menu of the Camera.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Is San Disk memory card compatible with Digimax 401 ? I inserted one and got the message card errior.

Hi,
SD Memory Card is compatible with your Digimax 401 camera. You just need to format the card.
Formatting a memory card
** This is used for formatting the memory card. If you run [FORMAT] on the memory card, all
images, including the protected images, will be deleted. Be sure to download important
images to your PC before formatting the memory card.
** If the memory card is not inserted, the internal memory will be formatted.
** Be sure to format the memory card if you are using a newly purchased or non-initialized
memory card, if it contains data that the camera cannot recognize, or if it contains images
captured with a different camera.

Formatting a Memory Card
1. In any mode other than Voice Recording mode, press the MENU button.
2. Press the LEFT/ RIGHT button and select the [SETUP] menu tab.
3. Select the [FORMAT] menu by pressing the UP/ DOWN button and press the RIGHT button.
4. Select a desired sub menu by pressing the UP/ DOWN button and press the OK button.
- If [No] is selected : The memory card will not be formatted.
- If [Yes] is selected : A [PLEASE WAIT!] message appears and the memory card will be formatted. If you ran FORMAT in Play mode, a [NO IMAGE!] message will appear.

Memory card contains no images after camera turned back on

It may be the images are there but the camera is not reading them... I would try to find a place (possibly a photo retailer or a computer repair place) with a card reader to check out to see if that is the case.
