I dont think it is the gears because the chain is moving I think I am missing a piece from the arm attached to the door and the chain because it is just moving straight through and isn't catching

Your gears are probablly shreaded. the good news is that your motor isnt dead. you will probabllly need new gears depending upon which ones were shreaded. seeing plastic shavings and or plastic pieces inside unit is an indication of that

Genie garage door operator will nor pull chain to open door< what could problem be?

Remove your door opener from your ceiling mount. Check the gear that moves the chain. Years ago many opener manufacturers changed from a metal to a plastic/teflon sprocket. This works well until it starts to wear down. IF this is the issue, the sprocket is cheap and easily replaced.

Garage door opener not working

Sensor must show steady light to close circuit and let opener work. If aligned, then there is a loose or broken wire. Try reaiming first to get steady light. Then check all wires . Another way to test and prove that is the issue is if u hold down the wired button at ur back door and the opener closes, then it is sensor issue. Good luck.

How do I stop my craftsman garage door opener from whining? it whines on the inside of the motor

is it gear or chain, is it genie or liftmaster. check for smooth operation of door by disconnecting motor. check tightness of cable/chain running down rail. this may be putting undue stress on gears and ruining plastic drive gear.

Garage door moves few inches and stops, springs are fine, sensros are fine.

If it is not blinking when it stops, then the capacitor is blown. Replace the capacitor and it should resolve the problem.

I can move the chain freely by hand but when I hit

Sounds like you are in need of replacement gears. It is like the transmission going out in your car. I would leave this to a pro but if you want to do it parts can be found at genie.com or overheaddoor.com. Thanks BB

The motor on my Genie Chain Glide garage door operator runs but the chain does not run or move.

If the chain does not move but the motor runs then you have stripped the internal gears. I would replace here. These chain glide units are not very strong. There might be a chance the chain is telescoping down the rail but the trolley is not hooked up. Pull the red cord back toward the motor to engage. Thanks BB

My genie garage door opener opens with no problem but when closing it only goes down a few inches then goes back up. I have went through an hour of troubleshooting with genie techs but still cannot get it...

Most openers have a safety cut out to prevent the door hitting your car when closing ,check the door guides to see if the door jams or is twisted.Depending on the model check the drive chain for sticking links or binding.Failing all disconnect from door and run unit without door. This will narrow problem to door or closer.

Genie garage door comes down and goes back up.

You need a general inspection of all related parts. Make sure none of the track mounting bolts have loosened leaving a misalignment of track segments. CAREFULLY with power off use fingers. turn EACH roller. Something as simple as a bad roller bearing can cause this, even a flat spot on a worn roller. Rollers can be bought at a home supply store. These are 2 most causes.

Garage door keeps running after it is shut

to tell you how to fix this is tricky your limit switch is not working, if it is a liftmaster, or sears craftsman take the cover down, if it is a older allistar it is a dog limit on the chain, if a genie check the cherry switch in back of operator behind cover.
