Get a lens cleaning kit. You can get these at anywhere from Radio Shack to Target to Best Buy.

If it does this with multiple discs, even after the cleaning, you may want to see if your warranty is any good by contacting Sony.

Let me know and we'll go from there.

Yeah, it's common when it's defective. It's not supposed to skip the sound. It is either a dirty or defective lense if it happens to multiple disks that are in good condition.

My PS3 has never done it.
My Xbox 360 has never done it.
My HTPC with a bluray drive has never done it.

And I have never heard of a clean and non-defective system experiencing any problems like this.

Ps3 player wont play blueray discs says needs up date

I don't believe there is an update that will make the Blueray stop reading, or start working. Your disk drive might be bad and needs to be replaced.

Disc wont go into console

There are 2 reasons the PS3 won't take a disk. 1. There is already a disk inside. 2. The blueray disk drive, is no longer working.

Disk denial

One of the weakest features of the ps3 is the blueray disk drive. For some reason, it goes out very quickly.

My ps3 will not read any ps3 disk but it will read movies whats wrong?

I would see if it reads blueray MOVIES, if not it could be a problem with the blueray reader. In that case I would see if you can locate one of those cleaning discs with a brush on it to clean the laser or contact sony to see if your console is under warranty.

Sonybdp-s301 won't play 2012

Sony BDP-S301 has an upgrade to Version 5.3 to support the new Blu-ray discs. Download the software here (Click the link). Read the procedure carefully and follow it exactly.
Note: The update makes use of a burned, finalized CD DISK, not a DVD Disk.

When tv is wired to media center and then to blueray dvd , disc will not play. Non blueray disc will play. When tv wired directly to blueray player, blueray disc runs fine. Cables are hdmi

Hi.

When you say disk will not play I assume the BRD player does not start playing.

If the Blue ray unit does not start at all and stays in stand by , then the HDMI cable you are using to connect to TV, or HDMI port on TV may be defective.
Try replacing cable and swapping HDMI ports.

Ps3 reads ps2 games and movies, but not ps1 or ps3 games

your blueray lens
the ps3 has 2 different lenses in the disk drive 1 is blueray and the other is just a basic dvd cd lens<
your blueray lens will have burned out if your still under warranty you should be fine to call sony and request a free repair if your not under warranty it will cost around £120

hope this helps

Sharp BD-HP20U Had been working fine, until today tried number of disk both blu-ray and dvd in and during disk reading process an error msg comes up incompatible disk

I have the same problem. I started several months ago with brand new blueray disks. Now even disks that worked before, now come up as incompatible disks. I have tried contacting support thru their website and never getting a response. Not even the automated response about how blueray is always changing. No firmware upgrades since 10-29-08. I will never purchase any sharp products again. And I would advise anyone considering it, dont. What a waste of money.
