It's probably not your fault. AVG has frequent update server outages, sometimes lasting days. If it's still not working Monday I'd remove AVG and install Avast ( or one of the other free ones ) and see if that will update. If so, AVG is the culprit. I gave up on AVG a while ago for just these reasons.

First make sure your AVG is up-to-date...then to get rid of the popup click on the red sheild that opens the security center. Click on "Recommendations" and then check the checkbox that says, "I have antivirus software I will monitor on my own". that should get rid of the red shield on your taskbar. If updating your AVG does not work, try using Avast Free Antivirus...It's free and works alot better than AVG. Hope this helps.

Tip

How protect Computer from Viruses infection

1. Get a good Antivirus Software. (you can try FREE AVG, Microsoft security essential etc)
2.
Keep the Antivirus Software updated with latest Virus signatures.
3.
Use an Internet Firewall.(I use free pc tool firewall plus, zone alarm)
4.
If you are Microsoft Windows user, turn on automatic updating.
5.
Never open an e-mail attachment from someone you don’t know.
6.
Avoid opening an e-mail attachment from someone you know, unless you know exactly what the attachment is. The sender may be unaware that it contains a virus.

Kaspersky over AVG8

Even though you uninstalled AVG from the computer (I'm guessing using Add/Remove Programs), there is probabky some files and possibly a quarantine folder that is still on the computer that was not removed which is making Kaspersky think that AVG is still on the computer.

You can download and run an AVG Remover Tool from here: http://www.avg.com/download-tools

Also check C:\Program Files folder for an AVG folder, and even do a Windows search for AVG and remove the folders left behind.

And if you are comfortable going into the registry, you can look in there for left over AVG keys, but hopefully the AVG Remover Tool will take care of it all for you.

Yahoo browser connects to internet but Explorer and AVG update will not.

Try to turn off your antivirus software's firewall, then try to go online using Internet explorer. If it works, it means your firewall needs to be configured. Pls post back.

Yahoo Browser connects to internet, but Explorer&AVG update wont

Yahoo Connects but IE and AVG wont
1. Try opening AVG and adjusting the connection settings.
2. Go to Start/ Network connections/ Local area connection/ General tab/ Scroll down to TCP/IP/ highlight it and click properties. Make sure "obtain IP address automatically" is checked. Under the advanced setting there, DHCP should be enabled.
3. Verify setting in Internet Explorer under: Tools/Options/ Connections/ Lan Settings/ select "automatically detect settings"

You might also check your AVG program for a firewall conflict or block there.

Let me know if this helps

Best virus/spyware protection

be careful when using symantec, it is a real resource hog! It does a good job, but is also expensive and costs annually to use. I use all the same items as GregL except i have had a lot of problems with SP3 :/ then again i normally install it on a working machine, and it messes somthing up. On a fresh install of windows XP it should do fine (SP3 that is)

When i want to update an update that needs to be updated

Do you know what the update is that fails? I guess the easiest way to see it is instead of using auto update, use Custom Update and see what needs to be installed.

I have also seen were some people have suggested this is caused by spy-ware on your system. Perhaps a in-depth scan would eliminate that possibility.
Personally I would not worry much about HP updates. The only time I would think of doing such updates is if I were having a problem with my system and an update directly addressed the issue. In fact I would go as far as to remove the HP updater.

Now Windows Updates are a different matter and should be done as they often cover security issues.

The HP Update program (bloatware, in my opinion) doesn't work with Vista very well, even though the system would have been bought with Vista pre-installed.Vista.

If you want to get rid of the HP Updates program, go to the Start menu and into the 'Control Panel'. Select "Programs & Features". The program is called 'HP Update'. You can Uninstall that program there if you like. You can manually check for updated hardware drivers by going to the HP site's Drivers and Downloads area, and entering your Desktop Model Number.

The HP Updates program also seems to have problems with various software/hardware firewalls, particularly when running Windows Vista, preventing it to search for and download optional driver updates for your HP computer.

HP says that hpsudelpacks.exe is a virus which affects mostly the automatic downloading of hp updates. go to their website and download the realtek audio driver manually to see if you can actually download updates to begin with. You should update any spyware or virus program if you have to and then shut down my computer and restart in safe mode. When in safe mode , run windows defender found here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx , then run avg virus program found here http://free.avg.com/download?prd=afe , then restart your computer, click on hp update in my start button area, and you should able to download another update.

Regards..

you need to uninstall AVG, probably through the Registry since AVG does not have a removal tool.
Once you do so, you can get it to install correctly. Also check that you have the latest windows updates.

I installed the online AVG 8 update and now I cannot connect to the other computer in the secretaries office. Please help me.

Your firewall or AVG is most likely blocking the access, what you need to do is go into the settings of it to check the blocked applications and make sure that you can get to the other computer.
