thank you, I called sony yesterday and after a few I follow his instructions doing a couple of diff things, like take battery out, reset button... the solution was to send it back to them with a charge or 221.

    Fake sticks? Perhaps
for some of you. My DSC 717 started
giving me problems about 6 months ago.
No change of mem sticks. I would
switch between the same two sticks, a 'reserve tank' so to speak. When the error message would come up, I would
simply change sticks. That worked for a
time. Then the problem progressed. Now, neither stick will get me around the
format error 13:xx message. Sony told me
to do all the obvious, re-format, take out battery, reset to default, and so
on. All this accomplished was to lose
all my personal settings. This camera
has had numerous issues. When it works,
I love it. But when I have driven 120
miles to shoot 10 photographs for a client and the Sony craps the bed, I am not
a happy camper. They suggested I send
the camera back to them for $ 250 "flat fee" so they can fix it. Of course they pretend no one has ever had
this issue before and that they have no idea what the problem is. It is a bad camera, period. I have sent it back to Texas for repairs three times already. The indicators on the mode dial all wore off,
no coverage. "That is a cosmetic
issue." The CCD failed. "You must have dropped it." They lost a class action suit and then
whistled the tune, "Send it back, we will be happy to fix it for
you." The CCD failed again. They charged me for this repair because I
called in 8 days after the court ruling requirements expired. Now the memory stick format error. What is next?
    Something other than SONY. They
have displayed their true colors too many times for me. jcstehli@en.com

Hi There, In the menu there should be a setting to set the camera back to factory. Try re-formatting the card. Try using a different card. The camera has some built in memory, take card out and shoot 2 pics on built in memory, is playback ok?
If not, card reader may be defective. Only service shop could tell you that for sure.
Let me know, mr cicmo.

I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F717 5.0 MP Digital Camera and when I turn it on I get a memory error. I have tried swapping out the memory but I still get a memory error. Any suggestions?

Try this:

First, make sure you have a copy of all important pictures i your computer.

Then, reinsert your memory stick into your camera and format it "using your camera".

The Sony DSC-F717 will only take upto a 256MB Memory Stick - larger size Memory Sticks will give the C: 13:01 error. Use a correct memory stick and your camera should be fine. Regards, Andrew

Sony dsc-f717 memory stick error I have a problem with my camera mentioned above, error number is C:32:01 that shows after I take several pictures or a short video. I changed the memory card into a new one...

A letter and number error code of C:13:xx is an indication the recording media (floppy disk or Memory Stick® media) you are using is either not supported for use with the camera, not formatted properly, or is damaged or faulty. Since you have swapped out the memory already and reformatted it, we'll probably have to assume that the reader is dirty. But first make sure that you re-formatted the stick using the camera, not a computer, as Sony claims that a computer format is not supported.

CLEANING THE READER

Blow into the stick slot with a can of compressed air, using a q-tip. If it still doesn't work you may need to buy a commercial memory card slot cleaner.

I have a sony dsc-f717 took several pictures and now i get format error 13:01 and can't retrieve the photos I've took and veiwed. Help retrieving

1st, try and download the pictures via your computer and a memory card adapter. If you're computer doesn't recognize the card through an adapter,

2) go to www.ita.sel.sony.com
Search by the model number of the Memory Stick. There is Memory Stick recovery software. follow the steps for the download and recovery.

3) On new/blank memory cards, I sometimes have to format the MS in the camera first, then everything works fine.

Memory Stick reformatted in new camera

Digital Camera and Video Phone Number 1 800 222 7669 - it's automated, just say your model number, then "no" to accessories, then "no" to connection problems, then "picture" for ccd issues. Its that easy!

Hi

Switch your camera to Setup on the control **** located on the top.

Take out the memory stick and press the reset button located inside the battery compartment.

Now switch on the camera and insert the memory stick.

If you do not get the error go to the little toolbox on the menu. Select the format option and proceed through the warning messages. Remeber you will loose all data on the memory stick.

Things should now work. If not some simple thing that sound bezare but has worked for me is pushing the memory stick in and out before the camera displays the error. Do this several times until the camera actually reads the stick and them format the stick first chance you get.

Good luck.

Try and clean the contacts at the memory stick slot by using a contact cleaning solution. The solution should be available with any Philips service dealer or PC shops.
