I had the same problem. What I had to do was press the 'dubbing' button on the remote while in VCR mode.

Can't copy to DVD

Most movies , on VHS , need a small decryption device to get rid of the ( Macrovision) protection, which will not let you record from VHS to DVD. I have one here that I use , works perfectly. It also decrypts from DVD to DVD , in case you need to back up a movie. Kids are allways banging DVD with scratches and it's not to copy the original & give them the copy to mess with, that way you allways have a perfect one in stock. If you ever need a converter , I have one left but works great. emailme:peppersradio@videotron.ca if interested?

It's a protected video. The VRD-MC5 will not burn a VHS or input that has been protected.
