I have a Nikon D40x that I have had for about 2 1/2 years. All of a sudden all photo's are coming out very dark, no matter which mode I'm in, It is not the lenses because I have tried different ones and had other people trying my lenses. The Shutter speed seems to be really slow, so sports mode is out of the question. I can take photo's on Manual but then have to adjust EVERYTHING!!
    Please help!

Are you using the automatic mode or manual mode? Try checking the dial and see which mode you are using.
If you are shooting on the mode with the crossed-out flash symbol, flash will not be fired, and if there is not enough light, the outcome will be very dark

My d40 has a image in viewfinder, will not take picture.

What lens are you using with the D40? Is it an AF-S lens? And is the Mirror Lockup on? Chech the Custom Settings menu. If mirror lockup is on, turn it off.

My Nikon d40 is all of a sudden taking dark pictures

Silvanus is correct - I have a D200 and often by accident adjust the exposure bias dial when taking the camera out of my backpack resulting in dark shots. I bet this is your problem.

I'm currently having the same problem. :[

You might want to check and make sure your lens in on the "A" setting and not "M". This can be found on the side of your lens.
