Windows Xp did nort even come out untill 2002. I am guessihg that your disk either runs on windows 95 or windows 98. You can attempt to install it and run it in the emulation the other windows by tell ing you computer to run that progran in .... windows.  It is availble in Xp but often does not work. Do a help search on you computer, on "running older windows programs" It wil explain how it is done.

Want to play titanic adventure out of time on windows 7

Running in compatibility mode doesn't work for this game. If you have a copy of Windows XP either by disc or an iso file, you can install it as a virtual machine. There's instructions for doing this, here.

Thomas & Friends Railway Adventures from 2001 seems to work fine on my Windows 7 PC, but I am wanting to give it to someone that is running Vista. Will it work with Vista? Thank you

If it worked on Windows 7, it will definitely work with Windows Vista
The only thing you need to check is if its Vista 32-bit or 64-bit - the latter is known to be not compatible with a lot of software.

Have a 2001 version that won't install on windows vista

This is not true. There are a couple of things you can try. One is to try installing the software in XP Compatability mode. Run the install as an administrator.
If that fails, you can certainly get it to run if you use some free virtualization software (VM) to create an instance of Windows 98 or Windows 2000 on your computer and then install Thomas inside this virtual machine.

I cant get candyland to play, i installed it twice

Ok go to your control panel and go to the add or remove programs may have to look hard for it...if you find it and you see it on the computer but its still not allowing her to play on candyland and there should be a option above it to uninstall...once uninstalled restart the computer and start from scratch put the discs in and do what it prompts you to do eject the disc once the download is finished and then put the disc back in the computer...there should be a AUTO play..... if it doesnt come up right away go to my computer and hit the drive that has her cd in it and that should make it pop up then

Screen display problems when running Adventures in Typing

I bought this for my daughters back in 2000. Now I find my mother wants to become a silver surfer and she would like to learn how to type letters. I tried using Adventures in typing on her laptop and saw that there were compatability issues. After a lot fo experimneting I found asloution that works every time and is as simple as can be. this is what I did (and printed out for my Mum:-)

Hi Mum :-)
Video problems with Adventures in typing with Timone and Poomba

There are compatibility issues with Windows Vista and this program

To overcome these problems we need to force windows Vista to use an
older Video format (from the days when the program was first published).

A short cut has been created and placed on your desktop.
The compatibility (properties) on the short cut have been set to –
  • Windows 95
  • 256 colours
  • 640 x 480

To create the short cut –
Place the CD-rom in the Disc bay and hold down the Shift key while the the CD-rom boots up. This prevents Autorun.
Now use Windows Explorer to look at the files and folders on the CD-rom.
Look for the Setup.exe file.
Right click on it to create a short cut that will be placed on your desktop.
Go to the short cut and right click on it to select the properties.
Now change the compatibility to the settings mentioned above.
Remove the CD-rom from the disc bay.

This is how to use the program Adventures in typing with Timone and Poomba on a computer running Windows Vista

  1. Do not put the CD-rom in the computer until you are asked
  2. Indentify the shortcut/icon on your desktop to start the program
    Click on this shortcut/icon
  3. When the computer asks for the CD-rom, place it in the disc bay and wait for the program to start.
  4. Use the program as normal.
  5. To quit the program so that it saves the progress you have made – use the QUIT symbol in the program’s screen
  6. When the program has shut-down, remove the CD-rom from the disc bay
Note that steps 1 through to 7 have to be done every time the program is started and stopped.

You will not have to do anything to put settings back to where they should be – Windows Vista will do that automatically.

This is how to stop any program if you are having problems and can not see how to stop it.
  1. Press the following two keys together Ctrl Alt
  2. While holding those two keys down, press a third key – the Delete key
  3. A menu will pop up.
Click once on the Task Manager option
  4. A new window will open with a list of the programs that are running on your computer. Click once on the program that is causing the problem.
  5. At the bottom of the new window click on End Task
  6. The program that was causing the problem will be shut down for you.
Note that using this method is a sort of emergency stop so it will not save any new work you have done on the program/file.
