Though I am not familiar with this camcorder, it probably creates an MPEG4 file. To get it into iMovie (depending on your version of iMovie) you may have to convert it to something that iMovie can understand. Try opening the file with a free program called MPEG Streamclip (www.squared5.com). If it is recognized, export it to either Quicktime or DV. IMovie should be able to open one of those.

Panasonic NV GS25GN How to download from camera's tape to a new iMac OSX? Do I need special drivers? My iMac has a firewire 800 connector (not a 400).

I expect that Firewire 800 is backwards compatible with 400. You just need a cable with the appropriate connectors on each end. The Mac surely comes with the drivers already installed.

How it works with my mini-DV recorder (on a PC) is that when I fire up the video editing software, it sees the camera as a source and can control it from the computer to rewind and download. The book says use the mains power adapter to make sure the camera stays powered.

I have a Canon FS100 Digital Video Camcorder. I am attempting to download some video on to my iMac, but then I select "Connect To Camera" I get the message "No Camera Was Found". I have the camera plugged...

The computer is no longer detecting the camcorder for several reasons. It could be the ports on the computer, it could be the cable that you're using to connect the camcorder to the iMac, or it could be the camcorder itself.

Try connecting the camcorder into different USB or FireWire port of the iMac.

Try using different cable.

Try connecting the camcorder into different computer to test the device.

If all else fails, power cycle the camcorder by turning it off and remove the battery for about 10 minutes. Then turn it back on. Otherwise, contact the manufacturer for second opinion.

Hope these helps and have a great day!

Transferring video on cassette to Mac OSX

Are you transferring from cassette to memory card and then to Imac? certainly there is software supported by Imac to accomplish this. You can convert your videos to MPEG format using Imagemixer then try uploading with another program. Imac and OSX should have websites that list compatible software.
