Question about Kodak ESP 5 Printer

1 Answer

Epson Stylus C84-brand new - will not print

I recently obtained this printer from my sister - (1) plugged in the USB cable, (2) installed the info on the disc, (3) JUST purchased brand new printer cartridges, (4) ran several nozzle & head cleanings (5) removed the printer cartridges as suggested (6) switched out a USB cable just in case the 1st one wasn't working for whatever reason (7) tried printing several things, word documents and still WILL NOT PRINT!
I am at my wits end considering the ink alone cost me $63 and the printer will NOT work. I've contacted TECH support and they are not able to help me. They've told me to contact a local printer repair shop.

If anyone else has any suggestions I will surely try them to see if they will help!

My C84 Epson inherited this too, got 4 cartridges in the slots, the power light keeps flashing green, the red light for the paer is steady. The red light on the ink indicator was lit I changed out all the cartridges the red light disappeared. I tried to print, it started up like it was printing something and the paper came out blank!

How do I clean the nozzle? Frustrated!!!

same problem here, I have done everything short of soaking the print heads, that kind of frighten's me. The printer has been sitting for months, after installing all new ink it just goes through the motions of printing but doesn't put any ink on the pages. The ink monitor still thinks its using ink though, its now telling me the black is almost empty when not even a drop of black has touched the page. Test pages result in blank pages.

I have exactly the same problem. After i switched out my old black cartridge (which was more than 50% full) the red light disappeared. However, when I went to print, it still printed blank pages. I think followed GWMD's solutions - did 3 nozzle checks and cleaning etc and still nothing. Finally, i used rubbing alcohol to soak the nozzles. If the printer does not work tomorrow (24hrs from soaking the nozzle), what should i do?

Does it go through the motions of printing i.e. the paper feeds through the printer and the print head goes backwards and forwards across it, but no ink appears on the paper? Or, does it simply do nothing?

If you provide this information I can help you solve this problem.

When the green light flashes by itself, it means the printer is up to something e.g. doing a head clean. Once you have got the green light steady AND the ink light off AND the paper light off, you are ready to print. If you get nothing on the paper in this situation it simply means the ink is not getting from the cartridges to the paper. Before you go any further, it is ESSENTIAL to be sure you have a good set of ink cartridges. If you are not sure, fit a new set - you can always use the old set in due course when your printer is working properly.

Have you tried a cleaning cycle? If not, try one (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select head clean). Now run a nozzle check (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select nozzle check). Is there any sign of ink on the paper. Try up to three cleaning cycles. If ink is now flowing, but not yet perfectly, don't carry out any more cleaning cycles. Just leave the printer for 24 hours (to allow any air in the print head to disperse). Then repeat the cleaning cycle/wait process. It may take a while to restore a perfect nozzle check print. If these actions produce no positive results, report back.

If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, and you're sure you have good ink cartridges properly installed, then You can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves out of its parking position, pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Do not turn the printer on at any stage in this process. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then turn the printer on and try a head clean/nozzle check again. If nothing, repeat the process once more. If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

    Hi mtafolla2

The possible causes of your problem would fill a book. Can you be much more precise in describing your problem e.g. does it apply to text or just pictures. Have you tried head cleaning and nozzle checks - if so, what was the result?

Please help me. I have a Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7825 Laptop with Vista. Can you Pleaseinstruct me on how to set up my Epson Stylus C84 printer---express Code 70445

The driver is included in your OS. If doing a wired connection, just plug the data cable into the printer. Then follow the on-screen commands (New Hardware Found Wizard). If that doesn't launch, click Start > Control Panel > Printer (under Hardware and Sound). Click Add A Printer to launch the wizard. (If you do not see this command, right click in the Printer Window and you should find it.) Select Use Existing Port, Next, Epson and Stylus C84 in manufacturer and model, Next. Then Set As Default printer if desired and Next. Then you can print a test page and Finish. (If you are using a print server or other type of networked printer, use the Add a Printer Wizard from the Printer window but choose Network.)

Ink levels available through the Printer Properties. Epson Easy Print is available for Vista here: .

I hope this helps.

Both red lights are flashing on printer Epson Stylus C84. I did not go to the utility to replace a black ink cartridge (forgot), replaced it and now it is stuck.

You will need to get it to reset to normal. If you tried turing off/on and it does not clear, try the following:

1) Unplug the power from the rear of the printer for 30 seconds.

2) Plug it back in and press power button. if you hear the carriage moving, immediately pull the power cord out againg from the rear. If it does not move, open the lid as if to change cartridges...when it moves, pull the plug. The idea is to stop it where you can remove the cartridges.

3) If you are succesfull with steps 1 & 2, close the lid and plug the power cable back in.

4) Power on and see if it prompts you for cartridges.

5) If so, install the cartridges in the proper manner as instructed in the manual.

Hi there HarryW - what is the "LWorks" program? Is it a Windows program - if so, you don't need a separate driver for it. All you need to ensure is that the printer is properly installed on your Toshiba as a Windows printer. If it isn't installed, just insert your Epson C84 CD and follow the instructions.

If you don't have a CD, go to

to download the driver (Printer Driver v5.4cA).

If Lworks is not a windows program, or if you have any further queries, report back to me with a new comment.

Please rate this solution if it has been helpful to you.

If any of the ink cartridges are needing to be replaced, the Epson C84 will not print, you will have to change the cartridge, if you lift up the printer lid the carrier will stop at the empty ink colour.
