Dimension 3000 won't fully boot with yellow light

I moved my computer upstairs and it worked fine for a few days then got really loud then shut off. I thought it was the fan but it still turns on. When I push the on button it starts to turn on then a yellow light comes on (with a green light) and it won't boot anymore (nothing on the screen..in fact it doesn't even allow the screen to turn on). When I opened it up to troubleshoot I noticed tons of dust and dirt inside. After cleaning it and troubleshooting I think it might be the heatsink or motherboard. Can anyone tell which it could be, of if I'm way of base?

It turns on but doesn't boot up...just sort of hangs.

Do you think I need a new heatsink or paste or both?

The last time I called they charged me $40. They said it was because I was out of warrenty. :(

Do you have a video card?? if so, change it. If not it is most likely your motherboard. If it was overheating it would shut off to protect the system, If it dosnt then it is prob a problem with the board. Have you cheked the power supply? does it post?

I believe it is probably a heating issue. Make sure its in an open place. Can you get into the BIOS? does it restart? or just hang?

Dell gives free tech support forever. If you are out of warranty, you pay the cost of parts; but they will give you the help you need. Just get the "tag number" from the cabinet before you call.

I have upgraded my hard drive from pata to sata using the ide to sata converter I don't no what went wrong but my diagnostic lights are reading A B C are solid green D is solid yellow and i am getting...

You may have to reboot a few times to update the bios with the new card. But there is probably an IRQ problem between the 2 cards. To fix this move the sata card over one slot and try booting again maybe 2 or three times.

I turned on my Dell Dimension 4700 computer, but the amber light started to blink . I held the start up button for 5 seconds and the light went out. I tried to start it up again and got the same thing,...

Vaughn it sounds like the power supply is going bad, try another known good working power supply. If that doesn't work then the motherboard would need to be replaced. If the power supply isn't giving the correct voltages that could cause the computer not to turn on. If the motheboard isn't able to convert the voltages properly then the motherboard could be faulty.

Dell Dimension 3000 flashing yellow light

Replace the power supply with a known working one. If it goes away then you know that the original power supply is bad.

If it doesn't go away with the new power supply then you know the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

Computer won't boot up after attempting to install new memory

I believe resetting the CMOS would fix this problem. To reset the CMOS, open up the computer and locate a battery similar to this one (it's on the motherboard):

Picture

Once you find it, pull it out. Leave it out for about 24 hours (one day) afterward placing the battery back into its slot on the motherboard. Now try booting up.

It should now successfully start up requesting that you make changes to the BIOS since the CMOS was just reset. Afterward you should be able to use the computer normally.

NOTE: Try resetting the CMOS with the original RAM inside the computer. The new RAM might be forcing the motherboard to send too much voltage or use an incompatible Mhz setting to support the new stick of RAM.

Let me know how it turns out and if I can do anything else to assist you.

Trying to log on to Dimension 2400, but won't come on power is going thru. AB light in back is yellow

Okay, That helps,
What did you do to the computer *prior* to this issue?
You need to look at a few things. Remove all memory sticks except one.
Try to boot. If it does work, then you have a bad memory stick.
Add another stick and so on.
if you have a Video card in a slot, remove card and relocate to another slot (IF RAM does not fix).
Make sure CPU is fully seated as well.
Can you boot to safe mode using F8 ?
lets get the first 2 things done first tho.
Thanks for the fast reply!!!

Comp boots, no screen lighting

This sounds like the backlighting has faulted, as around the screen there are tubes lighting the screen up, if these are gone they are replaceble but i would suggest taking to a qualified repairer as it is quite a complicated proceedure and get a price first as it may be cheaper replacing the notebook.
