Question about Kenmore Elite 22.4 cu. ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator with Adjusta Cube Ice Maker

Fridge keeps tripping electricity

I have a Daewoo FR 430 Fridge. It works OK for a while and then after a few days before it would run for a few weeks and then it would trip the electricity earth leakage. I check the electricity in the house and it is OK. If I leave the fridge off for a day and switch it on again it would run for about three days. when this problem started it would run for a two to three weeks but now it seems to be more frequent. The compressor does feel hot at the time it tripped. I cannot see any water or anything strange. I had the the fridge checked out a few days ago. At that time it was running and the home appliance person could not find any fault. Now today 3 days later it tripped again. I did adjust the setting from normal to cold in the fridge compartment as it felt as if the fridge was not cold enough. The freezer compartment seemed OK. I note that by removing the earth cable from the fridge it does not trip. (I did however put the earth cable back for safety purposes).
Can you please assit with the problem as it has been like this for some time and I am not full time at home I would like to get an understanding of the possible cause.
Thanking you

I believe this could be due to faulty starter capacitor. Sometime the capacitor could be incoperated in the starter switch. Either of this could be faulty. If your frig is the defrost type, the frig frequently switch from cooling to defrost mode. Each time there is a surge in voltage and current. The purpose of the capacitor is to smooth out the voltage so as not to trigger circuit protection thereby triggering the tripe or current cut off. Usually in unity with the faulty defrost timer. One fail the other is likely to follow.

That is so, we the cut off is at regular interval as dictated by the cycle.

If it is the defrost switch then there can be a built up of frost at the panel of the freezer. The defrost timer can be detected to be faulty if you dismantle the unit and shake it. If there are noise, the internal part of the timer has something broken.

The timming of the above must precisely coincide with the time cycle and you can note the exact position of the trip by looking at the defrost switch mark. Especially if your circuit breaker is "Residual Circuit Breaker" That is one with a test button.

I assume by "earth leakage" you mean it is on a GFI circuit? Some older GFI outlets are sensitive to and do not work well with motors or other inductive loads like your refridgerator compressor. As for the compressor feeling hot, this is usually normal.

If this is a GFI outlet, try replacing it with new unit. If it is a GFI breaker, try replacing that.

Frig cools works great all day then trips the gfci

Hi Sturkle;
Does this happen say- every 6-8hrs? If so you may find the defrost element has a short, or defrost timer is faulty. Defrost element is located in the freezer compartment, Time located an back of fridge.. Use a qualified person when playing with electrics...Cheers

We have a hoover 430 fridge that runs often

is it holding temp?, if not check your evaporator fans inside and make sure they're operating, then feel the compressor top and see how warm it is, you could have a freon/refrigerant leak, also clean the condenser coil and compressor area out, they need air to keep units cool

Help needed to clean the filter of fridge

You need to clean your coils - that is why your refrigerator is not cooling as well as it used to and will also solve the clean light. Whether they are underneath unit by taking off the kick plate or behind it is the same problem.

This should be done every 6 months (or more if dusty enviroment) to keep the problem was reoccuring. The brush accessory tool of a vacuum works best usually.

Some times water flowing from bottom side of the fridge

There should be a drain pan directly below the icebox which needs to be emptied from time to time. Some units have a drainpipe connected at the back, if yours has one, it may have become blocked.
