LIfe Cam 3000 problems with Windows live messenger 2009

Camera works fine on the PC but when I start a video call I get an error that camera is being used by another software. I have everything else turned off? I have reloaded software for camera and live messenger numerous times.

I can see others when they call me but my camera will not interact.

Im using an acer notebook with build in camera. The Live Messenger 2009 cannot use the camera. He tells me it is beeing used by another programm which isn't true. In my case i cannot access the audio and video setup either. The drivers are properly installed and the programm used to work one or two times and then quit. Obviously a programm error of Live Messenger 2009

I'm using a Sony Vaio laptop with built-in camera with the same problem. After much searching it appeared to be a firewall problem, so I disabled that -- and it didn't help. I have gone through the audio/video set-up again and it works fine in that context, but I still can't video conference. On occasion I can video-con if the other person contacts me, but my camera doesn't show up. Sometime during the call, the system kicks us off and then the other person can't contact me by video con. Audio calling is also intermittent if initiated from the other person. I cannot initiate either video or audio conferencing.

Didn't have this problem with the Beta version, only the production version. After spending three days on this problem I have determined that Live 2009 sucks and I'm going back to a previous version.

I have the same problem. It used to work fine with Windows messenger until I upgraded to the newer version of messenger. Now it doesn't work.

  • richie_powel Mar 19, 2009

The solution given below does not appear to work for messenger. If I try and setup audio and video I just get a basic error message stating that they can't be setup - this only appears to happen with the latest release.

    Any help would be appreciate

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:

  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
