Question about Microsoft Outlook Express

1 Answer

Sending Multiple emails

I'm using Windows Vista and Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, when I send emails it sends multiple times to each recipient.
I have run the latest virus checks (Norton) and that finds no problems.
Any ideas what could be causing this and how to fix would be appreciated.

I had this same problem and found this solution (that worked!):

If your "Sent" file folder is overfull (it can only hold about 2G), OE can't file the sent message so it retains it in the "Out" mailbox. To see the size of the files in your "Sent" folder, go to your Outlook Express "Store" folder (in OE click on "Tools/Maintenance/Store Folder" then copy the information that shows where this file is located; then go to "Start/Run" and paste this information into the "Run" window; this will take you to your "Store" folder). Right-click on the file folder titled "Sent Items.dbx." It will show you the file size.

If you have too much information stored in this file folder, go back to your OE view and either delete some files from your "Sent" file folder or move them to a new folder. However, you must then "Compact All Files" (Click on "File/Folder/Compact All") in order to actually clear the space in the folder.

This should do it!

Outlook is sending multiple emails

Check your outbox and make sure the email you tried to send is no longer there because outlook tends to try and try sending a previously unsent email message.
Make sure the outbox is cleaned up.
In sending email with attachments, make sure the attachment is not too big that it exceeds 5mb to avoid these type of incidents, as a work around for multiple attachments you can try sending them in a different email message.

Multiple emails

This problem is likely related to your virus software. If you are using Norton or Mcafee, try disabling the email scanning feature or temporarily uninstalling the software. Test the mail send again. If the problem is gone, then try uninstalling Norton or Mcafee completely and cleanout all residual folders and registry entries left behind. Then do a clean install of your security software. I recommend using AVG Internet Security. Been using this for many years without issue or complication

Be sure that only one instance of Outlook is running.
You can verify this by openning the tasks manager and ordering process alphabetically.

Can recieve but cannot send emails from outlook 2003

As a test, try temporarily disabling any anti-virus or firewall software you're using, then try again. If it goes through fine with AV/firewall disabled, there is probably a setting in your software that needs to be changed.

Distribution list

Some clarification is needed.
  • Are you on a corporate domain or using a computer at home?
  • How many people are in the distribution list?
  • Does your email provide have limitations on the # of recipients?
  • Have you recently installed or uninstalled Norton or McAfee antivirus?
Two things you can try:
  1. Attempt a repair by opening Outlook -> Help -> Detect & Repair.
  2. Reduce the Distribution list by half creating two separate lists that are an equal split of the original.
  3. Go to Tools -> Options -> Others -> Advanced Options -> Manage Add-ins, then disable all by unchecking the boxes. Try sending the message to the group. if this works then one of the COM add-ins installed is the problem. (Such as Symantec/Norton)
