Look closely right at the front of the CD drive - does it say CD ROM or CD/RW? Or possibly DVD ROM or DVD/RW?
If you have a drive that says "ROM" on the front, it's not a burner.
If your drive does say "RW" then it may not be enabled. Go to My Computer (or Computer, depending on if you have Vista or 7) and right click on the CD drive. Choose properties, and look through the tabs to make sure that drive is enabled for recording.
download another copy of the software, then uninstall the old one before you install the newer one.. should solve the problem for you . if not, then contact microsoft and get their input, it may be an incompatability with your cdrom drive that microsoft may have a patch for
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesCdrom.
Double-click the Autorun value, and type 0 for its value. (If it's not there, create it by selecting Edit -> New -> DWORD Value, and typing "Autorun" for its name.)
You may have to log out and then log back in for this change to take effect.
Note: With this solution, Windows will no longer be notified when you insert a new CD. To make sure the correct icon and title for the current CD are displayed in My Computer and Explorer, press F5 to refresh the window.
