Question about HP LaserJet 1018 Printer

1 Answer

Black edge Every page has a black band about 5mm wide at the left-hand edge of the paper, otherwise printing is fine. Is this a faulty cartridge, or is there another possibility?

Re: Black edge

With other laser printer that problem would be attributed to the drum being faulty. Your model of printer has the toner and drum built into one unit - the "cartridge". You can try a different cartridge and see if that changes your printing results. Another reason, which is less likely, but still possible it that your fuser film sleeve need to be changed. The fuser film is located deep within your printer and requires a technician to replace it. Regards, Babb

Broad dark line on right edge of copied papers

If you have the black line on copies and scans but printing from P.C is fine, then your scanner is broken.

Contact your printer manufacturer for a replacement or repair.

Epson Stylus Pro 4800 Never Before Seen Banding Problem

Clean the nozzles, align the print heads, turn it off for about an hour. You may need to do this twice, but it works for me.

Nozzle Clogging & Black Cartridge Leaking

Hi e-margaret. There's a bit of confusion here. Horizontal banding is due to LACK of ink flow to the paper. "Splodging" is due to too much. The former can be due to blocked/faulty print head nozzles or a faulty/empty-ish cartridge, or some less common problem like the waste ink pipe blocked. The latter is usually due to a leaking cartridge.

The first job is to mop up ink slopping around under the print head. Cut some strips of kitchen towel and fold them into 3 layers so you have a strip about 2 cm wide. Place them on the print head track. Turn on the printer, and as soon as the print head moves, pull out the power cord from the back of the printer. Now you should be able to move the print head carefully by hand too and fro over the towels. Repeat this with clean towel strips until most of the surplus ink is cleaned up. Remove the towel strips, replug in the power chord and switch the printer back on. Do a head clean cycle and nozzle check 3 or 4 times. If the nozzle check output looks OK, try a test print of a text document

If things are still not OK, report back on what happens in a new comment. If my instructions are not clear enough, please post a new comment asking for clarification.

Black Streaks on Edges of Paper

This can be one of two

Print cartridge (you can do it, replace toner cartridge)

or Fuser (needs to go to doctors)

stop a print half way threw to confirm that it is print cartridge, good chance it is.
