Question about Boston Acoustics BA735 Computer Speakers

Boston Acoustics Digital BA735 Speakers with no Analog input.

Bought 2 sets of BA735 speakers as Christmas gifts. I own a set and wanted to give as gifts.
However, the 2 sets I bought have only Digital inputs jacks, where as my personal speakers have both Digital and Analog.
Is there an interface from Boston Acoustics (or where ever) that I can obtain?
Thanks, regards...
Jay

I use one set of BA735 with two computers. Computer A sends digital out and Computer B sends analog. BA735 plays both. I listen to music using digital while the analog from the other computer alerts me to the incoming messages in Pidgin.

I did have to change bios settings on one computer to use the on-board audio.

To enable digital output in XP, click on the speaker icon > Advanced > Select Enable SPDIF. You can leave the PC Spk Mute unchecked if you want the analog output as well. That's all.

I hope you are able to enjoy the rich sound of BA735. It's beautiful. My ears thank a lot for replacing those desktop speakers. BA735 hardly takes up any space . Two small speakers are perched on the hutch and the bass module is somewhere behind the desk, completely invisible.

There were 2 different models of BA735. One had only Digital in, and one had both Digital and Anolog. For the model without the analog input, you need to have a soundcard on your computer with a digital output, or you could add that option with a sound card. If you really need the speakers to have the analog input, you could add that feature if you are comfortable taking the subwoofer apart and soldering a couple of components to the circiut board.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE THE TURNTABLE IS SET ON 110

be careful . USA voltage is 110 volt - see on the power input and lable - does it state 220 Volt or 110 . Usually you will find a selector switch on the power input side .to set the local voltage - otherwise you need a stepdown transformer

CAN I USE BA735 ON HP 890T COMPUTER ?

Im not seeing a model 890T for HP, but the main issue with this particular set of speakers seems to be where they were purchased. If they were purchased through Gateway and are the version with digital input, you will need to make sure that you have a digital soundcard in the computer. However, if they were not and have an analog input, they should work just fine with any computer.

Recently bought a Lenovo Lenovo G550 laptop. Can

If I remember correctly, those speakers were supplied with some Gateway computers equipped with a digital soundcard, and the speakers take only digital input.

Take a look at the input plug and compare it to these:

If yours looks like the mono plug, your speakers will only work with the original digital card. Plug them into your new computer and you'll get nothing out of them.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!

Connecting BA735 digital 3.5mm plug with S/PDIF coax jack

The male mono plug (from the left small speaker) should be connected into the right speaker (small speaker with controls) . After plugging the multi pin cable from the control speaker to the sub-woofer you need to plug in a signal source from your computer (or any other digital signal) into the sub-woofer. This digital input looks like an ordinary RCA plug but carries many channels of audio. That connects to the enabled digital output of your computer. Some computers output digital through a 3.5mm jack others look just like an RCA phono jack. If you are lucky some BA735 sub-woofers have a second input that is a standard 3.5mm stereo jack and it will take analog audio from computer, DVD, MP3 player or the like. I have three sets of these speakers that I love because of their big volume considering such a small size.

Assuming you are using digital BA735.

Use the dongle that came with your Inspiron. It gives you a digital output which can go into the BA735 speakers.

Assuming you are using digital BA735.

Some Dell computers come with a proprietary s-video dongle. It gives you a digital output which can go into the BA735 speakers. If not then you can buy a cheap device that can give you digital out unless you want to mess with third party drivers and enable digital out over SPDIF on your computer.
