Press both your menu button and the center (select button) for about five seconds, hold them down until you see the apple logo appear on the screen. That is your reset option. It will go through a shut down/reset process. When finished, turn it back on and enjoy....Brian
Stuck or frozen you have to hold the the menu and middle ong for 10-20-30 secs

You can try going into iPod Diagnostics
Just click and hold on the Home and Center button at the same time until the screen turns black, then click and hold on the Center button and the Rewind button (Left button) until something different than a iPod display comes out.
what you can do, is take the hold button, and push it back and forth maybe 2 or 3 times, than you hold down the "menu" utton and the center button at the same time for about 10 seconds and you will see it restarting with a black screen and the apple icon in the center than you can let go of the buttons and about 10 seconds it willl become brighter and you will see the icon, then you can get to all of your music or videos and such
