Bought a Brothers HL2170W. Came with a starter cartridge. Also bought a 2140 (same starter cartridge but not wireless). Used the 2170W till the toner light was on steady. Then tried to use the other...

Yeah, right. This may not apply, but if you look at the cartridge from the top, on the right side there's a sensor that knows how much toner is in the cartridge. It's a little optical hole like about 1/4-3/8 inch. If you put a piece of black tape over the hole, the printer thinks the cartridge is new :-)

HL 2140 printer need ink cartridge installation instructions

This is a laser jet printer there is no ink, it uses toner. Purchase a toner cartridge and open the lid, remove old cartridge and insert new one. The part number for the cartridge is TN360. Good luck. here is a place that sells them for $50.00 http://www.lasercartridgeplus.com/tn360-tn-360-brother-hl-2140-toner.html You might be able to find it cheaper if you look around.

The toner light stays on even after we have replaced the cartridge with a new one. Recently we replaced the drum and it was working ok for a short while and then the toner light stays on and the printer...

Here you got bud just copy and paste all this **** below into the http:// window at the top of your web box:

http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:uNJvw-MWncQJ:www.oasis-imaging.com/images/pdf/cart_inst/Brother%2520TN360.pdf+Brother+TN360+by+OASis&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESj4M8XLUS4yMo7hAf3nTuGGvKtaYS5_tHhGdh9WoDGinffOkVJPv8cp642xaSG5PkbrNrcUssyMY1ggc1xYlSZEu-JNeY4iVcXWD9O7MKza5_7CjyQyTPW7nnZeAQWm_d7f-MEE&sig=AHIEtbTarYNPKakKRnVcXg3pW_PBoi_4tA

You gotta reset the plastic piece at the end. Also, get you some black electric tape and tape the 2 circular clear plastic plugs on each end of the cartridge. The sneaky bastards at Brother shoot a laser through these clear plastic plugs and when the toner goes below these plugs that causes your printer to say your out of toner even though your not. Therefore if you tape over these clear plugs, then you can squeeze another 225 pages of pure printing bliss without needing a replacement.

What do you do if the toner light comes on after you have installed a new toner cartridge

Did you remove the toner protect strip to allow the new cartridge to expose the toner?

Remove the Toner cartridge and reseat it. After reseating it, wait for the printer to recognize the cartridge, then turn the printer off, then back on.

Toner light is on on Brother HL-2170 Laser Printer and the computer is not recognizing a print task. Can you help me fix this problem? Also, I just replaced toner a couple weeks ago.

I just replaced the toner cartridge and the Toner LED is still on, or the status monitor continues to display the message "Toner Life End". What can I do?

The yield of the TN starter toner cartridge is approx. 1,000 pages.
The yield of the TN330 toner cartridge is approx. 1,500 pages.
The yield of the TN360 toner cartridge is approx. 2,600 pages.
Approximate cartridge yield is declared in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752(Letter/A4).

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

1. Verify you installed a NEW, out of the box, genuine Brother toner cartridge (TN360/TN330).

If a toner cartridge from another machine was installed (even if there?s still toner left in the used cartridge) or a starter toner cartridge (included with the purchase of a machine) was installed, the Toner LED will stay on and the message "Toner Life End" would continue to appear on the display.

2. Verify the toner cartridge is installed correctly by following the steps listed below:

a. Open the front cover by pulling the tabs on the left and right side of the printer towards you.

b. Lift the drum unit slightly and pull it out. Place the drum unit on a piece of disposable paper or cloth to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.

c. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum by holding down the lock lever (blue tab) on the left side of the drum unit and lift the toner out. Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wash it off with cold water.

d. Gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

e. Place the toner cartridge into the drum (be sure it clicks into place).

f. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab on the top of the cartridge from right to left several times. Return the blue tab to the home position before reinstalling the drum unit assembly.

g. Reseat the drum unit into the printer pressing it in securely.

h. Close the front cover making sure it latches on both sides.

If the Toner LED is still on or the status monitor continues to display the message "Toner Life End" the printer will need service.

The printer has a one year limited exchange warranty. If the printer is in warranty, call Brother Customer Service at 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) for warranty options.

If the printer is out of warranty, contact a Brother Authorized Service Center for repair by clicking on the link below:

Brother 2140 toner light on, won't even try to print.

To get every bit of toner powder out of the cartridge, first remove the toner unit from the drum assembly. Second, find the little circular window on the right-side of the toner cartridge. Third, place a piece of black electrical tape over the clear window, cannot be clear tape. Fourth, re-install the toner cartridge into the drum assembly. Last, put the complete unit back into your printer. This worked for me.

Trick the thing. Put a piece of black electrical tape on the "eye". (Take cartridge out, on right side there's a small clear hole). Worked for me!
