Cannon, Epson and HP all have printers under $40. This is just an example and sampling from Newegg

I also have a NEC Silentwriter Superscript 660i Laser Printer that I need a Driver for on My Windows XP Pro Computer. It was given to us by a Dear Friend. Please!

Unfortunately there are no drivers for XP, Sometimes you can get an older driver to work but not always. Below is a link to the 98 drivers which are worth a shot.

I have a canon mx310 color printer, I would like to disable the color ink cartridge as it is running low on ink

Note: Some color ink will still be used for print head maintenance.

Note: Image quality may be sacrificed when printing photographs.
  1. Open the Properties / Preferences window for the printer.

    For Windows Vista
    • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.
    For Windows XP Home Edition
    • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and Faxes.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

    For Windows XP Professional Edition
    • Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Printers and Faxes.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

For Windows 2000/ Me/98 (if applicable)
    • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

  2. Click on the Main tab.

  3. Select 'Plain Paper' as the Media Type. If any other paper type is selected, color ink will be used to create black.

    win_main_plain_paper.jpg

Note: The pigment black ink will only be used when printing on plain paper.

  4. Select the box for 'Grayscale Printing'.

    win_main_grayscale_print.jpg

Note: If either 'Borderless Printing' or 'Duplex Printing' are enabled from the Page Setup tab, grayscale will be created using a combination of the color (dye) inks to prevent smearing.

  5. Click 'OK' to save the changes.
The printer will now only use the pigment black ink tank.

Have changed cyan and magenta inks which it asked me to do and now when i print a picture or anything for that matter there is a pink hue all over the page!! jane

Hi Jane,
Try to do few times the deep head cleaning, under printer properties on PC.
Are you using genuine or remanufactured ink tanks?
It also could be fault in ink tanks, especially if they are not genuine.
Also maybe its fault in purge unit and head.

Best would be to try with new oem inks, at least with one.

Hope that helped!

I just installed windows 7 on my computer- is the Canon Multipass F60 compatible / supported? If so, what's the safest and cheapest way of downloading the software?

The installation software only lists the following OS:
Windows 98/Me/2000/XP
Link here.
If you load the software then update the drivers you may have a working printer with windows 7.

Anytime someone updates their OS early it is a risk.
Many components may not work or crash.

If your the type that likes to keep with the newest technology.
Remember there is a reason geeks call this the bleeding edge.

Good luck!
Hope this helps!

I have windows 98 and and asking for setup disk which i don't have.. canon LBP 3000 printer just bought does not setup but i have the driver disk for it just not win98..

note that windows 98 is no longer compatible with recent gadgets like you printer. this means that your pc registry is not able to load up the modules for installation process that needs certain requirements that your windows 98 do not meet.

the best option i advice you on is to check your pc's performance: your ram, processor and power supply. if your ram is over 512mb and your processor is near or above 1ghz, then you can either install another windows on the system without removing your 98 windows. this will help you install any other devices by using the other windows modules and swiching between the windows easily. this option is not advisable but helpfull when you do not want to override you existing windows so you could add any machine to your pc.

i know this might be a boring and a long process to consider if the printer you have does not support windows 98, but you could try it if you willing.

i will be more than just happy to hear soon fron you.

wonder

Canon PIXMA iP1800 InkJet Photo Printer for windows 98

I think I will save you some time telling you that there is no driver for Pixma IP1800 running on Windows 98/ME.

The printer had been built to work on windows XP/Vista, and drivers for 98 were never made.

Here or here you find two of the many threads on Win 98 driver for Pixma IP1800, all of them end in nothing. I can speak portuguese, the links wrongly provided are drivers for XP, and won't work on 98, and there is also no brasilian website distributing drivers for this printer on win 98, that was just a legend.

This printer won't work on Windows 98.

Cant remeber the ink cartrige #

Hello, there are two ink cartridges for this printer, 336 Black & 337 Color, the cheapest way to buy these is at costo,Please do not refill your old ink cartridges as the printer will on most ocassions tell you to remove the faulty cartridge, however you may get away with a refill only once. I changed to a Brother MFC it was easier to install, prints faster,it has fax, scan, copy phto capture, you will need to buy use printer lead for this machine as it does not come supplied, the bonus of having the Brother MFC 235C is that the 4 ink cartridges are half the price of one HP Black Cartridge, check out www.999inks.co.uk
