Creative Zen Freezes on Rebuilding

My creative labs zen recently froze. After following the instructions on the Creative Labs website, i reset the unit. Now, half the time it does not even power on ( just a gray screen for 5 seconds, then nothing ) or else it goes into "rebuilding" and simply freezes while trying to rebuild. My computer no longer recognizes the device when it is plugged in, so i cannot manually wipe it clean. Suggestions ?

I have the same problem as this person. I've been through all of the suggestions by creative and still no solution.

I too am trying to research how to fix this "freezing" issue. I am at my wits end.

I thought I was the only one having this problem thinking maybe I did something wrong. My Zen froze while I was listening to a song. I left it on because it wouldn't turn off so the battery died and when I turned it on at first it would just say low battery, then it started rebuilding. It's been rebuilding for the last 2 days and it's still in the same spot.

It freezes on the rebuilding spot and won't move from were it is. My computer now doesn't reconize my zen and it won't turn on or turn off unless i connect it to my computer and still then it just still just stays the rebuilding freeze.

My Creative Zen freezes in rebuilding

Got the same problem. I tried to re-install firmware... twice. Still no change. Sometimes it work for a few hours. Then it freezes but I can still shutdown. But it won't start unless I either do a scan or a re-install or anything.

By the way. Is it normal to finish a scan after like 1000%?

I have the same problem as well...
I went to plug it in my computer and when I looked at the screen it said "rebuilding". It's been stuck on the same spot for awhile. I tried reseting it with a pin and it turned off. But when I turned it back on it immediatly went back to the "rebuilding" screen, and it's been stuck there ever since. It sucks.

i just added some new songs on my zen and now it freezes when i try to play any songs

Someone mentioned earlier to push the reset button with a paper clip while holding down the play button, then turn on the power.

I was able to clear it of that issue an reformat, but now I have to reload my music. Good thing I have an external hardrive with the music.

My Zen locked when I turned it on. It wouldn't play the track the screen was on so I pressed the reset button and turned it on again. It was then still locked on the same track so I tried turning it off which then froze as it was shutting down. After another reset it went through the rebuild screen then locked again. I then used the above fix (pin in reset, then hold play and power switch down). Taking me into the kind of bios screen I formatted the contents. Then added my library again. It's now working fine.
This is the second Zen I've had because the first one had the same problem so I took it back without trying to fix it. Both times the problem occured when I had my Zen plugged into my car stereo auxiliary jack whilst switching the ignition on in my car. I can't understand why this would cause the problem but I'll avoid doing that in future.

Turn it off completely. Press the reset button using a paper-clip. Then afterwards, flash again the firmware.

If you already try both reset, then try doing a firmware update.

On computer try unplugging computer power cable, and if it is a laptop also remove battery, this sort out problems related with electrostatic charges on computer USB ports.

Creative zen froze

Try sticking a safety pin into the reset hole. It's tiny and it should be at the bottom I did this with my other creative when it froze and it worked.
