Question about Yamaha HTR-5440 Receiver
I have a Yamaha HTR 5440 unit that I have had for several years. Recently it stopped powering up. I took the cover off it and did not notice anything burnt. The fuses were good and I had power at the power supply rectifier bridge. When I turn the unit on, there is a click and no display. None of the functions work so I believe it is being inhibited by some kind of control circuitry. I like the unit and would rather repair it than replace. it. Any Ideas?????

I had similar problem when setting up the YAMAHA remote control for my NEC LCD TV. At the end I found I did not follow the YAMAHA manual properly. Did you hold down the DTV/CBL button, and AT THE SAME TIME press the AV POWER for 3+ seconds? You should be able to "REMOTE SETUP OK" displayed in the front panel of the YAMAHA AV receiver. Hope this helps. BTW, only the TV POWER, TV MUTE and the numeric buttons work in my case.

Let me make this clear to you that your Yamaha does not support Microphone but the trick is you can still do it. All you need is a stereo jack to a RCA connector cable.Check this out http://www.mediacollege.com/audio/connection/jack-stereo-rca-2.html It is easily available in the market. The stereo jack will fit into your microphone and the RCA to your Amplifier/Reciever. Plug the RCA into CD/Tape input but not in the Phono n do your thing. Let me know if this works, coz I'm really curious.

Took my Yamaha HTR 5790 to a repair shop for an estimate to repair. Cost me $50 for estimate to be applied to repair. It needed two circuit boards replaced at a cost of $390.00.
SOLUTION... they kept my $50 and I bought a new AV Receiver that WAS NOT a Yamaha.
