Your TV would have to have an AUDIO OUTPUT port (RED/WHITE) and that would go from the back of your TV, to the RED/WHITE input on the DVD938. All your other devices would go directly to your TV. After you do that, you change the input on the DVD938 remote to AUX.

SOURCE: Question: how do you connect to a cable box?

That Coby DVD-937 only has Digital Audio outputs rather than inputs, which is very strange and complicates our problem immensely. You will get 5-channels with DVD or radio play, but getting 5 channels for TV is not possible without additional equipment.

The manual for the Coby mentions a "Digital Decoder Amplifier," which would work. You would connect a digital audio cable from the area marked "Coaxial" on the back of the Coby to a digital audio IN on the back of an external amplifier. You would connect the speakers to this amplifier, instead of directly to the back of the Coby. Then you would need a cable or satellite box with digital audio outs (fairly common nowadays) to another digital audio IN on the back of the amplifier. The cable or sat box you may have already, but you may need to purchase such a "Digital Decoder Amplifier" or other digital amplifier with appropriate speaker wires and 2 digital audio input slots (not to mention two digital audio cables). Fairly complex. Possibly expensive.

Bose cinemate no sound

Yes it will work coming straight off the dirctv box. What kind of tv do u have that doesnt have an audio out. I have had to actually use rca splitters to get sound from bluray and cable box because the new samsung led tvs only have optical out. Dont forget the unit not being used must be off or u will have 2 source sounds at one time playing.

No surround sound from my PS3 through the Onkyo 5100. Video OK

Unfortunately only the higher end Onkyo Reciever pass audio over HDMI for sound. 605,705,805,905 exc. Your reciever will carry Video over HDMI but you will need a digital optical cable for sound.

thanks.

Sc-pt660 + 46pz85u = NO SOUND!

Don't worry about sending the TV audio to the Panasonic. Just send a digital audio signal from the cable box to the Panasonic.

DVD - Panasonic connected via HDMI
TV - Panasonic connected via HDI
cable connected to cable box and TV. But you will not really be using the cable connection to the TV (TV Tuner) since you will want HD feed from cable box through HDMI input on TV.

You aren't concerned about feeding the TV speakers because your audio will always come from the home theatre.

Note that some components don't feed audio through HDMI, in which case you will need to use optical digital audio.

Cant get the wiring figured out.........

TV is HD correct? Use the Y/CB/CR from the Sat to the TV. Use the Digital optical cable for sound from the sat to the receiver. Use the s-video from the dvd player to the tv and the l/r to the receiver for sound. I would suggest upgrading to another set of Y/CB/CR cables to connect your dvd to the TV and benefit from better picture. Also, buy another optical cable for dvd sound (so you can enjoy surround sound). Your receiver has two optical inputs so youre covered there.

HDMI sound?

I had the same problem with my PS3. I have a HD cable box with HDMI out, a Sony DVD player with HDMI out. The Sony receiver STR-DG800 only has the HDMI inputs (sat/tv and dvd) and the HDMI is only a pass through port and will not decode audio.
I purchase a HDMI 4 port switch from Newegg (HS-41A0 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812168003&Tpk=HS-41A0) to hook up the DVD and PS3 to the DVD HDMI and switch between the DVD player and the PS3. It took me several days to figure out how to make this work with the settings on the reciver.

1 the DVD player must use the coaxial in jack for sound on the receiver.
2. the PS3 must use the optical connection on video1
3. the sound settings in the PS3 must be set to PCM
4. set the sound setting on the receiver to the following

a. on the remote press AMP button then the MENU button, next press the down arrow to you see 5- AUDIO SET - then press enter.
b.set sound decode priorty to PCM
c. next scroll down to you see digital assign - press enter
assign VID1 OPTICAL to DVD ( this allows the pcm output from the PS3 to play through the receiver), next assign DVD to COAXIAL setting DVD to DVD (this allows the digital sound to play from your DVD player).

So when you use your remote and select DVD, you can use your PS3 or DVD through the 1 DVD HDMI port.

Connect PS3 for playing/viewing blue-ray thru surround sound

Connect the PS3 to your TV with the hdmi cable and to the surround sound system with a digital optical cable, then set your PS3 to output sound through the optical port (through the sound options menu) and you're good to go!

Please help with getting 5.1 sound from my TV!

You must run a Digital Optical cable from your PS3 to your reciever. Then press your function button on your recievers remote until you see SAT/CABLE on your recievers display. Next go to your PS3 settings and go to Sound settings, then Audio Output settings, and select Digital out (OPTICAL) then your done. This is the only way to get true digital sound from your PS3 to your reciever.
