Question about Apple iPod touch

Problems connecting to internet on new apple itouch

New apple itouch - seems to be picking up router i.e. it comes up with 'NETGEAR' and asks for password - put in the password but then nothing happens. I can get to a screen which asks for all sorts of information ip addresses, etc but I have no idea what it is talking about. I seem to be going round in circles looking at all different things but all the apple information is really unhelpful - i really didn't think it would be this difficult and that you would have to be a technical expert!! Any help and advise would be appreciated before it gets thrown through the window!

Hi Kath,

First, it's probably a good idea for you to change the network name from 'NETGEAR' as it could conflict with any other devices nearby. Also change the password from the routers default.
Don't worry about ip addresses and the like. all that is sorted automatically.
Just go to the home screen, then settings, then Wifi, turn off then on the wifi and wait for it to show up. If it does then select it, type in the password and tap Join.
If it doesn't show up or connect then tap Other and enter the network name. If the network requires a password, tap Security, tap the type of security the network uses, and enter the password.
If none of that works do a restore and software update as described on page 111 of the user guide (also available from http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipodtouch)

All the best

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Itouch wont recognize wifi from my linksys router

Enable "SSID Broadcast" to get network to appear on iTouch. Also note that your "password" to modify router settings is not the same as your security (or WEP, WPA) "key".

It's since the touch doesn't officially support WPA PSK and only supports WPA2. What will work is WEP and although it is less secure very few people will bother cracking your network. If you continue to have problems with your secured connection try putting the hex key instead of the passphrase (you set hello as your password the hex would something like 0X34Hg65) it is usually displayed just beneath the password you set.

Are you sure you are entereing the correct passphrase, or is it a network key (usually entered in Hexadecimal). Is your Netgear router set up to use WEP or WPA or equivalient security?

Have a look at this thread. That may offer some insight.
