Our maytag refirgerator cools but won't get cold.

Hi,
As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

The freezer is coated with frost and the top will not cool. Had this problem 2 yrs. ago and repairman charged 200.00. I defrosted freezer and top part is cooling, but this is a temporary fix. I don't know...

Good day,
The defrost system has had another failure. The system is made up of 3 parts.
The first 2 are located in the freezer behind the rear panel. They are the main heater which is a calrod unit mounted to the bottom of the cooling coil, and second, a defrost thermostat, which is a small round disk which is clipped to the top of the same coil.
Both can be checked with an ohm meter. Unplug the machine, and while it is still cold, check both with the meter. The thermostat should check zero ohms, the heater no more than 30 ohms. The thermostat is usually the culprit, with the calrod heater failing rairly.
If both check O.K. then it is the adaptive defrost control, which is located in the roof of the fresh food compartment. It fails fairly often, and is the most expensive.

With the complete model number, call your local appliance parts house for prices.

Mini refirgerator stopped cooling, interior light

If nothing is running but the light is on you might want to unplug the unit for about a minute. Then plug it in. If it starts up again then do nothing. It just had to be adjusted. If the display shows a er then it could have something wrong with the thermistors. If it shows 2 dashes then let me know and I can try to walk you thru a program to get you backup and running again. If 2 dashes you will have to get to the plug so pull the unit out.

Refrigerator not cool freezer working

Rick,

This is the generic answer. Use the hair dryer (below) and reset the defrost (look for instructions from Sea Breeze)

Most of these units work with the freezer providing all of the cooling and a thermostat in the refrigerator section controlling a fan in the freezer (where the fan directs cold air from the freezer section to the refrigerator section via a duct in the back).

Look at the rear area of the refirgerator and locate a vent. This vent receives cold air from the freezer to the refirgerator. If you feel cold air coming out of this vent, then there may be no problem, just wait a few hours and recheck the refrigerator temperature.

Look at the rear area of the freezer and locate a vent. This vent provides cold air from the freezer to the refirgerator. Shine a bright light into this vent. You should see fan blades (possibly black plastic). If there is ice on the blades, then you have a defrost problem, and look to other posts on this site for how to manually defrost (or reset the automatic defrost). If the fan blades are rotating, then there is probably a blockage in the duct. Direct a hair dryer (warm setting) through the rear freezer vent and check to see if there is very warm air flowing out of the refrigerator vent (which indicates that the duct is not blocked). While using the hair dryer, you may be able to see the fan blades rotating.

If you do not feel warm air flowing out of the refrigerator vent, then run the hair dryer for a few minutes. (this was my problem, I saw no moisture drip from the vent, which led me to believe that it was more of a dry ice buildup, or that the ice was evaporated (desublimed to be technical).

If there is air flow and no ice buildup on the fan, then reset the automatic defrost. If this is not your solution, either the thermostat or the fan motor is the problem.

Mod: 10651262103, icemaker leaking, not making ice

We need to know if the ice maker overflowed or if there is a crack. Sometimes the water gets frozen in the fill tube and diverts the water everywhere other that ice maker. Rare but sometimes something causes the water control valve to stick open on rear of refrigerator. Your ice maker has a thermostat inside it and starts a cycle when the thermostat says the water has frozen. That starts a cycle of about six thing to happen. The defrost element below ice maker warms the bottom just enough to loosen the ice. Micro switches feel and sense the position and as it nears ending the final step the ice maker tells the water control valve to open for a few seconds. An adjustment in that control may stop over flow. But if cracked in a major section it will need to be replaced. Let me know if this helps you. Sea Breeze

Finding the thermostat polarity

The only way to eliminate the thermostat is to remove and test the 2 connections while changing the settings. Or place a similar thermostat in its place to see the results. Thermostats can stick on or off.
