Blinking shutter speed on canon digital rebel xt, cannot take pic

I put on a new tamron lens for canons. Took a few test pictures. All was well. This morning I go to take a pic and all that happens is the shutter speed blinks, like 4, then 6, etc. I cannot take a picture. (In auto mode or any other). I tried to adjust the wheel and nothing changes the outcome. Help! I'm on vacation and want to use my camera. thanks

In order to help we first have to determine if the problem is with the lens or the camera body. Do you have another lens? If so, do you have the same problems when you use the other lens?

SOURCE: Canon Rebel XT I can't change aperture or shutter speed in manual mode

You may try this. Reset all in the menu setup.
What you will be doing to to reset all the settings back to factory settings. Then you will want to go through the settings and reset them the way you prefer.

I have a Canon Rebel XTi, I am having a problem with the camera either freezing up or being blurry when take action pictures, especially in an arena. Is this a lighting issue or what?

Carmen,
This is likely. Action shots require a fast shutter speed which in turns requires more light. Aside from a very expensive lens, about the only thing you can do is try to increase the light, slow the shutter speed, and increase your ISO rating to 1600.

Thank you.

My Canon Rebel XTi seems to randomly take shots and more often not. Any idea what could be causing this?

If the camera appears to be working properly in some pictures and not others I'm going to suggest you look at your Shooting Modes. It's very possible that the mode dial has been turned to the TV mode which is Shutter Priority. With the Rebel having a shutter speed of 30 seconds to 1/4000 you may click the shutter to take a pictures and the camera appear not to take the picture. A few seconds later the shutter closes and the mirror drops. This also can happen if you are in the Night Portrait mode. The length of time my be longer if the lens cap is immediately placed on the lens.

Change your mode to "P" program until you become more familiar with the camera functions and settings

I have a digital canon rebel xt with several lenses. I just purchase a tamron 70-200 1:2.8 lens and want to know the correct setting to take footbal pictures at night from the sidelines. I get perfect...

Light up the scene! Even pro lens would have trouble taking pictures at night. Pro shoot in highly lighted stadium with 10 000$ lens with tripod or monopod. Tamron sells entry level lens, stop searching a trick, you wont find any other than lenlighting the scene!

Blurry sports pictures that are inside and are fast moving b(basketball). Is the problem my lens? I am using a Canon XTI. I am a pure amateur just wanting pics of my daughter playing ball.

If you're shooting in the full Auto mode, you are not taking advantage of the capabilities of your digital SLR. Your pictures are blurry because the shutter has to stay open long enough to properly expose the picture, but the people are moving while the shutter is open. You need to increase your shutter speed or increase your ISO, which means you have to select another mode on your camera. You could invest in a "faster" lens, which means that it can allow more light into your camera, but is also more expensive. Try this excellent tutorial on using a digital SLR, then try it out with your camera (use your camera manual to find the correct mode selections, etc.)

Look at the topics under Photographic Concepts to get an understanding of the relationship between shutter speed, aperture, and film speed (ISO).

500mm lens will not function with my Canon digital Rebel XT.

This lens will work with Canon cameras. I use one on my Canon 30D. It is a fixed F8 you can not use auto or green box because there are not any contacts on the lens to talk to the camera. Its back to the basics manual adjust shutter and ISO to the get a correct exposer. DEFINITLY NOT A POINT AND SHOOT LENS.

Blurred night time football pictures

The standard canon 75-300 lens is not considered a "fast" lens. Because of this, when zooming in on objects you are actually reducing the amount of light hitting the image sensor. Fast lenses cost $$$$. Just google "Canon L Glass" and you will see what I'm talking about. Try opening the field of view (zooming out) to allow more light to be absorbed bu the image senor. Crop your subject later in whatever software you use. You can also use one of the manual modes and up your f-stop to make the camera more sensitive to low-light conditions (higher f-stop means higher film speed.. higher film speed is how fast the "film"... aka image sensor absorbs the light. for action photos, faster film speed is key!!). have fun experimenting.

low light means the shutter stays open longer to capture the image.   Try changing exposure settings.
