You can hook the two computers together with a cross over cable. They should have one at Radio Shack or order one online. Here is a link that shows how to go about it. This will allow you to copy everything over.

I am trying to do a system recovery on my Compaq Presario SR2050NX in order to give it away. I have tried using the F10 System Recovery function and have also used "Start, All Programs, PC Help &

Recovery/Restoration Disk

Yes, I read what you stated

In order to remove all your personal information; at least in the extent you have indicated; you need the Restoration Disk,
or a Full Installation disk. As in a new genuine copy of Windows.

Restoration Disk is a LOT cheaper than a new genuine copy of Windows.

[Microsoft makes one Master disk. From it all GENUINE copies are made, and sold to the consumer]

Going with information from the US;
The disk is free

The shipping and handling is not

$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.
Call 800-474-6836
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Have the Serial Number written down to give to the nice representative.
This is located in the white Service Tag, on the back of the desktop computer.
S/N = Serial Number

Restoration disk installed, when you are asked choose Full Install.
Destructive Installation

Takes the computer back to Day 1 from the factory

All your personal info is gone

Now let's talk a minute
Your personal information isn't really gone. Even with a 'shredder' program that writes 0's and 1's, hundreds of times over the information on the harddrive, the information is STILL retrievable.

FBI and other agencies, have pulled info off of harddrive's that have been used by drug cartel's, that the computer was in a purposely bombed out building.(Drug lord/s did it)

The harddrive's were BADLY burned, but there was still enough info left.
Bye-bye bad guy's.

To TRULY get rid of any personal info on a harddrive, take it out, smash it with a hammer until very flat, and then burn it.
MAYBE this will do it.

What are the chances of someone, who has the know how to remove your old info?

Really?

Is there a download to fix the hard drive

To physically repair the harddrive if it has bad sectors? NO.

There is a method whereby the harddrive will skip past bad sectors, and move the information to any good sectors there are, but this is a band-aid fix.

I would get the Restoration Disk, and choose Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)
Then copy off ALL personal info to disk/s or flash drive/s.

Programs WILL NOT move over. (Can't copy) You have to manually install them again, or download them again, on the new harddrive.

Which leads to; After copying off all personal information, FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions, computer unplugged from power, and install a new harddrive. Then use the Restoration Disk to reinstall Windows.

Don't have the Restoration Disk/s?
In the US the disk/s are FREE. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

INSTALL A NEW HARDDRIVE TO MY HP PAVILION A1220N ERROR MESSAGE COMES UP BOOT MGR IS MISSING

You need to install an operating system like windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Linux OS. Your hard drive is blank now and needs programming. If you have a friend that can clone your old drive then they will be able to copy everything from your old drive as it was to your new one. Might need to contact a local computer technician to re-install windows for you if not sure. Also you need to consider the price of windows XP, Vista or 7 if you don't have a copy!! Good luck!!

How do i remove the hard drive from a hp pavilion a1320n

1) Computer unplugged from power, observe Anti-Static Precautions.

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.

Computer unplugged from power, computer on a table, computer case open.
TOUCH the metal fame of the open computer case to relieve your body of Static.
Also before you take new hardware components out of their anti-static bags, or boxes.

If you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again upon your return.

Replacing the Harddrive, (Hard Disk drive),

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00639788&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1818050&tmp_track_link=ot_search

The Harddrive is a SATA harddrive. Uses a SATA 7-pin data cable, and a 15-pin SATA power cable.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SATA

Top right photo shows the SATA data cable connector, and cable.
Top right photo below it shows a typical SATA data header (Connector) on a motherboard.

Typical SATA power cable, and it's respective connector,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#sata

NOTE*
IF, your SATA harddrive has a connection for a standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable, (Misnomered as Molex), AND a connection for a SATA power cable, ONLY use the SATA power cable.
It will Burn Up the Harddrive if you use both.

If you are putting a new Harddrive in, you will need to have backed up, (Copied) the info you wish to save off of your old Harddrive, first. This is if the harddrive is not bad, of course.

You will also need the Restoration Disk/s to install a new Harddrive, if you are going to just replace the harddrive with a new one. (Larger, or replacing a bad harddrive)

If you do not have the Restoration Disk/s you can obtain them from HP Support.
In the US call 1-800-474-6836
24hrs a day, 7 days a week.
Disk/s are free. Shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.
Have the Serial Number from the back of your computer tower handy to give to the representative.
(White Service Tag. S/N is Serial Number)

If you are not in the US, here is the Worldwide Support contact page,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/wwcontact_us.html

If you are going to install a new operating system, per se Windows, (Windows 7?), you may have to go into BIOS Setup, and in Boot Order set the first boot device to CDROM, if the disk does not automatically load.

I want to pull info off a hard drive & put onto a disc.

Hi,
If your new computer doesn't accommodate the drive then you will need a three and a half inch hard drive enclosure to put the hard dive in from the other computer.
You will have to look at the drive to work out which type enclosure you will need.
It will either be a SATA connection like this >>>>
3be7131.jpeg

Or a IDE/ATA connection like this >>>>
60d4e19.jpeg

If you compare the connections on these examples you will one has plastic connections and one has brass pin connections.
As soon as you know which type of drive you have you can then proceed to purchase an enclosure.
When you have got the correct enclosure all you have to do is install the drive and connect it your new computer.
You will be able to access the drive, copy your data and use the drive as an external hard drive.

Copy files from old computer and transfer to new computer

Although Vista comes with an Easy File Transfer Wizard it is not compatible with Windows 98.

You will need a CD burning program such as Nero Burning Suite or Creative CD Writer or here is a link to a FREE one.
