We have the manual - it says lift from front and put rods in place to hold. Problem - looks like it is screwed down somehow - we can't lift it and the screws are impossible to ge to.We are not even sure that that is the problem. I want to clean the underside of the glass. Any ideas?

Re: lifting the top of the Maytag MER5770AAW
Eliasan, to remove the glass top you need to open the oven door, on the body frame where the top of the door fits under, there will be 2 quarter inch screws on each corner securing the top to the body. Remove these 2 screws. Grab the top with both hands and pull forward. Disconnect the quick connect fittings in the back for the burners and the top will lift off now. Make sure to kill the power before attempting this. Catriver..post back

Most of the internal components of Maytag Neptune Front-Load Washers can be accessed with the removal of the front panel and lifting of the top cover. The top cover can only be lifted after the front panel is removed. Make sure that power to the machine is disconnected prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.
The first step is the removal of the four screws located vertically along the inside lip of the door opening. These screws hold the front panel to the front shroud assembly. Once the four screws are removed, grasp and press in on the upper edges of the front panel posts then twist it inward to release the clips holding it to the cabinet. Tilt the top of the front panel and move it away from the machine.
The top cover is held on each side of the cabinet by hold down brackets. Locate and remove the 5/16" hex-head screws holding each bracket then swing the bracket to the outside and unhook it from the slot in the top cover lip.
Remove the four screws securing the dispenser bezel to the top cover then lift the bezel off. Open the door then lift the front of the top cover and tilt it toward the rear of the machine.
The internal components of the machine can now be accessed. Reinstall the top cover and the front panel in reverse of theremoval steps.
This procedure is also applicable to Maytag Square-Front (1998) and Sloped-Front (1999) Dryers (Maytag Neptune Dryers). The only difference is the dispenser bezel removal.

Unplug the dryer. Open the door and remove a total of 4 screws, 2 on each side of the door opening. Two screws each hold a clip in place and the other two hold the dorr hinges. When you remove the screws on the door hinge, it shouldn't fall off, but be prepared for it to do just that. The door should come off by lifting the hinges upward and pulling the door away. The remaining part of the front panel is held on by 2 clips located toward the top sides of the u-shaped front panel. Pull the panel forward to release the clips and lift the panel upward to clear the two tabs and slots on the bottom. On each side of the cabinet, there is a blackish colored metal bracket that holds the top in place. Remove the fasteners that holds these brackets and remove the brackets by sliding them upward and away. The top should now lift up. You now have access to the fasteners that hold the baffles onto the drum. If , for some reason, you should want to remove the baffles, carefully note the different sizes of the baffles and what order they came off.
Here is the parts list for the drum of your dryer:

remove the scresw holding the door on, remove the door, the remove the 2 screws oppisite th edoor inge and the front panel will lift off. there will be 2 5/16 screws holding the top down to the frame of unit, the top will then lift up[ giving you acces to the outside of the drum to resecure the drum baffle
OPEN THE DOOR AND REMOVE THE TWO SCREWS IN THE MIDDLE OF EACH HINGE. LOOK AT THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE OPENING AND REMOVE TWO SCREWS FROM THAT SIDE ALSO. PULL FRONT TOWARD YOU FROM THE TOP. You may want to re-seat the right two cooking elements, in case there is poor electrical contact. When you have them removed, clean the contacts with denatured 91% alcohol and a Q-tip. The removal procedure follows. First, unplug the range. LIFT–UP PORCELAIN COOKTOP To lift: When cool, grasp the cooktop front
edge. Gently lift up until the two support rods
snap into place. To lower: Hold the cooktop front edge and
carefully push back on each support rod to
release. Then lower the top into place. COIL ELEMENTS
➢When an element is on, it will cycle on
and off to maintain the heat setting.
➢Coil elements are self-cleaning. Do not
immerse in water. To remove: When cool, raise element. Carefully pull out and away from receptacle. Check them for damage. They do wear out. To replace: Insert element terminals into receptacle. Guide the element into place. Press down on the outer edge of element until it sits level on drip bowl. COIL ELEMENT SURFACE ➢ On Canadian models, the two front elements will not operate during self-clean.To prevent the risk of electric shock or fire, never line drip bowls with aluminum foil.
If that does work, you may have a faulty control panel. In that case, call Maytag at the number below.
