I have a gas range made by GE model# RGB745BEHCCT self cleaning...This might sound crazy. When I cook lets say a roast Beef at 350 20 mins a lb for rare it takes forever to cook If the beef is 2lbs it will take at least 1hr. and change or longer. I do have a good oven thermoeter and it shows that the oven is at 350, + - a degree or so....... I hope you understand the question. Thanks for your help..Mark P.S. This is with everything I cook. Just takes forever ......

Hi and welcome to FixYa.com

First thing you want to check is the power supply (fuse or circuit breaker) to your oven.
Now, before you say "RescueTech it can't be the fuse because the indicators light up and I can set the controls!" read on-
Your range and oven elements are 220V units. This requires both legs of the 220 (L1 and L2) in order for them to heat up. Your indicator lamps and controls are 120V, therefore they will continue to work if one leg of the 220V feed is not present. It is very unlikely that all your switches and elements have failed at once. So start first at your fuse or breaker box. If you have cartridge fuses, you need an continuity tester or ohmmeter to check them. If you have breakers, there are two styles- One is a "single lever" style that controls both legs of the supply. The other style is a "double pole" breaker that is actually two separate breakers connected by a pin between them. Oftentimes one side will trip but not the other. You will actually be able to visually see this as the pin will appear crooked as one breaker is in the ON position and the other is in the TRIPPED position. Turn off the breaker (both sides will move together) and then reset it to the ON position. Now the pin should appear straight and both breakers should be in the ON position.

If the breaker seems to be fine, the next thing I would check is the terminal block where the range cord is connected to the appliance. As a journeyman technician, I often see where the installer failed to properly tighten the range cord's terminals when he/she installed the range cord. The appliance will function for awhile, sometimes for a few years even, but that connection gets HOT every time the range is used, and especially when the oven and all 4 burners are used together (Like on a HOLIDAY!) What will eventually happen is that the terminal will literally burn away and break the connection to one side of the 220. The result is anything "low voltage" on the appliance such as clock, lights, timers, indicators) will still work, however the elements will not heat up.

Before you start changing parts, check these things. I would be very curious to know how this one turns out. Just remember that the top burners and the oven have no connection to one another other than the supply voltage.

I hope this helps and have a happy and safe New Year from all of of here at FixYa!!

Main oven not heating up , fan running ,temp light on but no heat

I suspect that the oven element has failed, to check this, remove cover at rear of oven compartment, there you will see the round oven element, it should feel hot after turning oven on to heat, if it is cold, replace it.

Have a viking professional oven and it takes too

A weak oven ignitor will cause this problem. even though it eventually lights the temp has dropped considerably so you don't get consistent temp. turn the oven on and listen for the burner to light. should light within about 2 minutes. if not replace oven ignitor(s)

Igniter will heat up (glow), and oven may or may not light for 5 minutes (with igniter glowing). After heating, and stabilizing...once the oven starts to cool, igniter will glow again, and may or may not...

The stove should not take over 3 minutes to light. Even if the ignitor is glowing it is impossible to really tell if it is ok or not. When the ignitor heats up it's resistance drops, this allows for the amp draw to get to 3.2 amps or better and that opens the bi-metal inside the oven valve. The oven circuit consists of a control to regulate temp, a safety valve, a ignitor, and a burner. Any open component and the oven will not fire off. If all the components have continuity and the ignitor is glowing, but no joy, I would replace the ignitor. Usually the ignitor gets dim when it is weak and it takes a long time to light off and you might even have to bump the stove and get it to come on. Replace that ignitor.

We have a GE gas oven/stove top and the stove top is lighting as well as the broiler but we can not get the oven to heat up. What do you suggest we try?

i just moved and our stove in the new place doesnt bake things right. it seems that the top coil doesnt come on. its very difficult to bake anything. seems to come up to temp for pre heating, but only the bottom coil comes on. If you put it on broil, then the top coil gets hot. that works fine. tired of burning pizzas and biscuits. can anyone help with a cheap fix? dont have alot of cash.

Kenmore ultrabake lights up when stove top is on but wont heat up

Hard to know...First thing I'd check is the power supply to the unit.  Turn off both breakers.  Check wiring all the way through for tightness.  Turn both breakers on.  Next, you'll need to check the elements for continuity...with the power off.

WHY WON'T MY OVEN HEAT UP?

Most modern gas ovens and many broilers use a "glow-bar" style of igniter that glows red-hot to ignite the gas. If the igniter doesn't reach the proper temperature, the gas valve won't open. You may need to replace the igniter.
