SOURCE: I bought the Canvio Plus

Hello,

During the process of removing the back up and other software, it is possible that you have removed the software that is useful for the canivio plus 1 TB portable drive and that is why it is displaying virtually all the hard drive bad.

I advice you return it to best buy and complain that the hard drive is malfunctioning, since it is just yesterday you bought it, it should be replaced.

Note, while setting it up, be very careful not delete any important software that might be useful to you.

Take care.

SOURCE: i want to format m y hard drive but dosn't work i

Hello

Go down to the bottom left, hit your windows button and click run
In the box that comes up type CMD

this will bring up a BLACK BOX with a blinking cursor

then you type FORMAT followed by the drive letter you want to format.

so if your drive name is E: then you would type FORMAT E:

If you type format C: you will get an error *Probably* because windows is running on that drive.

Best of luck

this sounds like a hardware issue, i suspect the harddrive. Try formating it and running diagnostics form a hDD external enclosure. Run a full scan disk and then format it form there before initializing it and back to the laptop for full installation of Vista

I have replaced my hard drive but the back up discs I made are not working, I keep getting the error 'no partition'

You need to create a partition on your new hard disk and the format this partition as a NTFS partition.
You can use your Windows installation CD to create and format the hard disk and then install Windows plus the Acer laptop device drivers or quit Windows installation after formatting and then use your backup discs to restore your laptop.

Long periods of hard drive activity

Most likely, it could be the amount of ram you have in your computer. If your running low on ram and it is using the virtual memory your computer can be running all the time causing a slow down in whatever you do. Check to see how much ram you have :)

Format Error

Hi,

Most "Format Error" messages are generated because of hardware fault. This unfortunately would mean that your ST3160021A is no longer usable.

Alternately, you can try temporarily installing it to a 2nd PC and perform disk utilities on the said HD. Things you can try are partitioning or deleting existing partition, formatting and scanning to check for any bad sectors. You can install the ST3160021A as a primary slave, secondary master or even using an external USB to IDE/SATA adapter such as a VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter.

Once you have verified that no sectors are damaged and that the HD checks out, you can reinstall in the original PC and proceed with Windows installation. If on the other hand errors do occur even with using the 2nd PC, you have confirmed that indeed the HD is defective and would require a replacement.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
