That oven is essentially a Sharp model R-1874 with Viking's name on it. The R-1874 is turn is a variant of the R-1855A.

We have the service manual for the R-1874 and and R-1855A have uploaded them to our site here and here to help you.

You will need the
free Acrobat Reader to view or print them in case you don't have it.

The fuse and the magnetron's temperature fuse are the two internal parts most likely to render it "dead".

You can use the Sharp part numbers for internal parts, but not for cosmetic / external / trim parts.

If the problem turns out to be the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases in about a week or so.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

When i turn the microwave on the top of the appliance "arcs" i have not used since it has done this - called for a service call. anything i should do now?

unplug it so no one uses it by mistake, it probably has some paint off the cabnet behind the mica guard and the microwaves are arcing off the metal, it will need to be recoated with special microwave paint

HOW TO CHANGE VIKING MICROWAVE LIGHTBULB VMOS200

The Viking VMOS200 is essentially a rebranded Sharp R-530E.

One or both of these service manuals should cover disassembly and location of the bulb:

Viking vmor205 has dead short between hot and neutral, put ohm meter on hot and neutral leads and disconneced all the loads one at a time and still couldn't locate the short.could it be the noise filter...

You say "dead short"? That would zero or virtually zero ohms.

The normal reading at the power cord would be anywhere from about 80 to 250 ohms on that oven.

If it is zero, I would suspect the varistor has shorted due to a surge.

Viking microwave ovens are made by Sharp and the VMOR205 is essentially a rebranded Sharp R-1874.

The service manual for the R-1874 will be helpful and it's located at our site here.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please include your full model number from the tag in or on the unit) for more help or to get a varistor.
