Sony Vio won't boot up…

Greetings all, I have a Sony Vio Model PCG-GRV670. Its about 2 years old. It will not boot at all. Get it to turn on, fans come on and then nothing. Its like it is not getting to the BIOS to start it up. I located the 2 memory chips and swapped them (thinking that if there was a bad section in one of them I would be able to get "thru" the start-up). NO luck with that. Now I am trying to get to the CPU and reseat it, hoping that "Chip-Creep" has loosened the connection that I need. I have a good, charged battery and have removed all of the externally connected USB devices. 1. Any Idea how/where to get into the CPU? 2. Next move...? Thanks, Bill PS: I am trying the Sony web site also... Ours will start IF the battery is out...if battery is in...it won't boot up. Also tried a new battery - same result. Works fine plugged in w/o battery installed.

Can you try to see if you can enter into the BIOS without any memory modules been installed ?

My Sony Vaio PCG-61611L won't power on, the battery is fully charged and AC adapter is working (green light goes on). Please help!

OverheatingWhen the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

You say your battery doesn't work? Try removing it and then plugging it in with your AC Adapter. If it boots now it's because of the dead battery. If it doesn't check whether it boots with just the battery installed. It's either your adapter or your battery.

If it boots without battery, but with adapter --> dead battery.
If it boots without adapter but with battery --> broken adapter. (this can have multiple reasons, loose internal contacts, insufficient power, short circuit)

If none of the above is the case then you should contact Sony for there might be a problem with it's internal power system.
If one of the above is the case however check your warranty and get either the defective part replaced. (or if possible check with someone else's first).

I hope this helps, please rate.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen.
