Question about Samsung HCL4715W 47" Rear Projection Television

Image from HD receiver larger than TV screen

I have an HCL4715W. It has been working fine for 4 years, with a few technical problems in the way. About 6 months ago, the convergence failed, and a technician replaced the board. Immediately after the repair, I noticed that the image from my satellite receiver was larger than screen, i.e., I would not be able to read the news ticker on a news channel. I called the technician who came and did something that fixed (could not see what). Anyway, now I have purchased an HD receiver. I connected the system to the Component input of the TV, and now the HD image is larger than the screen again. Curiously, this only happens on the Component signal when doing 1080i or 480p, so the regular TV fits perfectly in the screen. I assume that whatever the technician did, he probably should have done it on all the other inputs (including the Component) or maybe the 1080i signal is just too large. In any case, if somebody could help me in describing what I need to do to fix this. I have technical skills, but I would rather have an expert advise. I am assuming I just had to tune something in the board. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, I already tried those settings in the satellite box. All changes yield the same result. The reason that I blame it on the TV is because other inputs show the correct image size, while the component input does not.

The samsung needs to align in that mode ,call the tech back and if it wasn't to long ago he may do it under a recall for the first repair, you must the service mode and adjust the convergence size for that mode and save it to eprom .

Most satellite boxes have a zoom, stretch mode that might be incorrectly set. i would check that first before dooming an issue with the TV.

Black bar on the top and bottom during watching the tv

Hello

If you are watching television and you see black lines on the left and right sides of the screen, check to see if you are watching an HD broadcast or a standard definition broadcast. You can do this by bringing up the TV guide menu on your remote. If the show is in HD, it should take up the full screen. However, if it is not HD, bars will be present on the left and right of the screen. That is because standard definition programing is in 4x3, which will not take up the entire screen.

If the picture you are watching not only has black bars on the sides, but on the tops and bottoms of the screen as well, your "Zoom" mode has somehow gotten off-kilter. Press the "Zoom" button on the remote until the image appears correct. If this does not work, power down the television, wait a few moments, and power the TV back on. The image should be correct now.

If the image on the screen looks stretched or squished, this is because your HD cable receiver is not set up properly for your widescreen television. Press the "Menu" button on the receiver

How do i get a full picture on my secnium hd tv?

Hello

To get the picture full screen come to screen aspect ratio settings.

The Screen Format feature allows you to change how the image of a 4:3 picture

is displayed on your 16:9 screen. The options are Normal, Zoom or Stretch. If

your TV receives an image with a 4:3 aspect ratio, the image can be displayed in

one of three ways:

Normal The image of a 4:3 video signal is centered with black bars on the
right and left sides of the screen

To get ito this setting mode
Enter the main menu and go to preferences select the screen format; option-2; and change the settings to get a full picture.
OK.

The receiver is not keeping the signal from my blu ray player. there's no sound or image. if i plug the player straight into the tv, it works great. but my brand new receiver, r-v436 works like ****.

Your brand new receiver? that model is almost 4 years old? The HDMI version is generation 1 version 1.1 and riddled with problems. It's not a "Yamaha" problem, it's an "HDMI" problem. HDCP is the biggest issue (copyright protection) and pass thru firmware that is not forward compatable, which is why HDMI blows. Today's current version is 1.3b and supposedly has "fixed" all the issues. If your TV is 1080p and larger than 50" run your HDMI directly to the TV from the bluray. If your TV is 50" or smaller or 1080i, just run Component and digital coaxial or optical. Reason: The human eye cannot see the difference between 720p and 1080p on a screen 50" or smaller, that is fact. If your TV is not 1080p, and is 1080i, component still has it beat at 720p. I've been doing HD since 1995 and have dealt with all the issues! If your not sure if your TV is 1080i or 1080p just post a comment w/ your model # and I can walk you thru the best possible way to set your system up. If you just got the receiver "new" from a store, take it back. It's way behind the curve. Hope this helps

See lines in HD cable or DVD source images, also maybe a problem w/ color, see extra blue haze

It sounds like convergence problem to me. There are two ways to correct these concerns; Samsung does sell boards, so if you are handy you can replace the boards yourself. BUT I recommend calling a factory authorized service company. It isn't costly, the cost will run around $400 -$550.
