That might be a good idea yet it could have a chance of damaging the system if it gets too hot. take it apart and let it air dry for a few days

the disc may be dirty or scratched, when you look inside the bottom of the disc (the clear part), if it looks dirty or there is debris inside, the case can be CAREFULLY cracked open with a small flathead screwdriver or better yet a utility knife. once opened, you can clean the little disc inside, with a very soft cloth like a kiwi cloth and a little bit of water. don't use any chemicals. then close the case back up with a little bit of crazy glue around the edge.

if the disc isn't dirty, the actual drive may be dirty. this is a little more tricky as it involves cleaning the laser, and is best done with the unit apart. if you care to dabble or have an electronics friend, a q-tip with some isopropyl alcohol is all you'll need once you get it apart. GENTLY swab the laser lens (the eye) just enough to say you did. let it dry and try out your game.

hope this helps!

My daughters leapster 2 freezes and has to be turned off then back on to fix the problem and now the screen has changed collors and is barely readable how do i fix these problems

That sounds bad. I'd check to see if you are within warranty coverage. Sometimes tech support will help you a bit even if you are not.

Most likely, the unit was dropped or else exposed to moisture. If it was dropped, a printed circuit board or similar may have cracked. That's sometimes repairable, but a difficult thing to do even for an expert with good equipment.

On the other hand, possibly a cable or connector inside, particularly one connected to the screen has come a bit loose from being dropped. You might be able to fix that by taking the unit apart (being careful to remember how things fit) and re-seating all the connectors, i.e. disconnect each one and then push it back into place firmly, though not really forcefully. The trouble is that in order to take the unit apart, there will likely be a screw under a label or something similar that is going to break your warranty by opening it. So you probably don't want to do this if the unit is in warranty.

Another possibility is that the unit was exposed to moisture. If so, you can try what I said in the last paragraph but also look for water stains or similar. If you find any, they sometimes leave a residue behind that can cause a short. Sometimes, even a bit of water can last for a long time if trapped under a part or connector. You can clean small water stains with some isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip. If you think there might still be moisture in the unit, try blowing hard at it while it is open from different angles. You might also try blowing a hair dryer at it and through it for awhile. If it becomes too hot to touch, you have the hair dryer too close.

Warranty repair is by far your best choice. The other techniques may work but unless you specifically spot the problem inside you may not be able to correctly diagnose it and fix it.

Black/blank screen w/green power light

I can fix it, When the system is shut down in the middle of an update the firmware or operating software is being replaced. If it is interupted it's kind of like your computer if it didn't have MS windows. What has to be done is that the firmware has to be replaced on it. You can do this by "hacking it which installs new firmware.

Psp not reading umd properly

if you can still hear it trying to work its most likely a problem with the laser which cost about $40 and probably $25 to $30 for labor. If it doesnt try to work at all then you will have to get a new UMD from $80 to $100 plus cost of labor. Unless you have experience i would suggest that you have a proffesional fix it, because you have to take the whole thing apart to change it and taking it apart is the easy part, putting it back together is the hard part.

Submerged in water

hi Inga,

Remove the battery for 2 days, Run hair dryer on it for aout 15 minutes too. keep it in a dry place for at least 2 days with no power from battery at all. If this doesn't work your probably not going to get it to work again with sending it to a repair shop for estimate of damages and repairs needed to recover.

Check out my website www.playstationclinic.com, we may be able to get it working again for a reasonable price.Just get the battery out  and keep it out for at leat 2 days. Hit it with a hair dryer again before you put the battery back in.
