Hi Barry,

Right-click on the file icon and in menu select "Open with..". Select Notepad as program to use.. It should return the following error.. "This file does not exist......would you like to create a new one?". Click on "Yes" and you'll get a blank Notepad screen, type some text and then save the data.. You now have a working file with data in it which you can delete.
Hope this helps

    Ok Barry,
it would have been easier to diagnose if you had posted what kind of file icon or shortcut it is, what is says under Properties, anything.. I can't even diagnose whether or not it is a spyware problem from your description. But I shall give you another option.
Well it's saying that because it's target is no longer there. If you go to the target folder and create a text file and call it the same name as the target and save it as that, it'll have a source that it can recognise, then you'll be able to delete it. If the folder is not there, you'll have to create that too.. just make sure the path in Properties exists.
If you think it might be a spyware issue, then download and run Spybot, search and destroy, fix selected problems and immunize.
In future, rate such suggestions as Thanks for Trying instead of Inappropriate. The people spending their time trying to fix your problem need to maintain a rating percentage.

    Good Luck

Try and download " Long Path Tool " is also useful in situations where you see these error messages: Cannot read from source file or disk, there has been a sharing violation, cannot delete file or folder, the file name you specified is not valid or too long, the source or destination file may be in use and many other file managing errors.

This sounds like you've got one of three things happening:

1 - Your USB cable is dying slowly. Over time connections become seperated within the cable. This causes data loss and all sorts of funny errors. Try a different cable and see if that helps.

2 - Your USB plug is malfunctioning or underpowered. If you are attempting to use a USB 2.0 device on a 1.1 connection, errors may prevent you from doing what you want to do. Try a different USB port, see if that helps.

3 - Your MP3 player has a setting somewhere locking files to the device itself. If windows tries to delete a locked file, you will receive an error. Browse through the manual of your device or the settings on the device itself and see if there's a lock or protection or USB mode somewhere.

Because you're getting the "cannot read from source or disk" error, I am strongly geared towards #1. Get yourself a new cable and see if that doesn't solve the problem.

HI

Have you move the file or ever tried to delete them.

Have you create new User Profile on Window and paste the Shortcut icon there? Since it may be a reason why you getting the error messages.

So first locate the correct path to the shortcut and then try to open it.
