If I receive a link in an e-mail to another website, which I often do, and I am certain it is safe and I want to open it, I cannot. I must copy and paste it into the address bar in order for it to work.
I am sure I should be able to click on the link and open it from the website.

This feature protects you from unwanted links to your mail. E-mail from strangers can contain unwanted connections to other web sites.
I usually keep this save guard where the links are disabled and enable for friends and official known to be save websites. You can enable for each specific e-mail as it is requested. The email will still open with links disabled and the link will be visible.
The following is from the AOL home page "options" that allows you to set the reading features.

The problem is not with your computer or your browser. You are saying 2 links opened. The other 2 did not open. It is quite common different links point to the same URL. The reason it did not open was because there is some mistake in the URl. Another reason could be that your browser is setup to block certain type of websites. Hope this will help you.
Make sure that you have Internet connection by going to other websites which you don't normally visit. If you have security software, try disabling it temporarily then try to click on the links again.
If you're using Internet Explorer browser, clear temporary internet files which are unnecessary. To do that, open Internet Explorer, at the top of the bar, click on Tools>Internet Options> then click on Delete Cookies, Delete Files and Clear History.
If you have Mozilla Firefox browser, go to Tools and click on Clear Private Data.
If you still can't access the links on your yahoo homepage, check if you can access links from other websites. If you're also having problems with other websites, it's a browser issue.
In cases like this, if you have Internet Explorer and you have this problem, I would suggest downloading Mozilla Firefox from www.mozilla.com
Also try to reboot your computer and modem..
And scan the computer for possible virus infection using a security software..
You may also contact your ISP so they can check if there's any latency or fluctuations on their end.
