Check to make sure the motor is actually running and not stuck, if the motor is stuck and no clothing is around the blower them check the motor to see if it is free, if it is and you turn the dryer on it locks up go get another motor the bearings are worn so that it locks up on start or after running a short time

A buzz sound when pushing start

That is a bad sign. If the buzzing starts when you press the start button and stops when you release its almost safe to say that the motor has a dead short or grounded out and causing that to happen. You can check the start switch by getting a multimeter and with the dryer unplugged take the wires off the switch, place a lead on each pin and press the start with meter set for continuity. If it shows continuity when presed and stops when released your motor is shot and needs to be replaced.
Now if you press the start button and the machine starts to hum and continues to hum its possible that something has gotten caught in the blower wheel and binding the motor up. Depending on the make and model the location and access to it vaaries.
If you can turn the drum and then the dryer starts you have a bad motor. The way the dryer works is when you initially push the start button, electricity is sent to the start winding, or stator, of the motor. This will in turn start the motor turning. From there the stator will drop out of the electrical process and at the same time the run winding, or rotor, will take over and the motor will continie to run. Your stator is damaged, has a burn spot, etc so by you turning the drum, the belt around the drum is moved which is attached to the motor pulley. You basically take the place of the stator. Long story short, you have a bad motor.

Dryer requires start button to be depress constantly for dryer to operate

If I am not mistaken, once the timer is set and the button pushed, the motor should run and there is probably a contact in the cintrifugal switch of the motor to seal in the run circuit. On a working dryer, if you push the start button for a split second, and let go the dryer will stop. This is because the motor has not reached proper rpm and the switch is not made yet. If the switch hangs up or the switch goes bad the same symptom will occur.

My whirlpool dryer start when you press the start button - but as soon as you stop pussing the start button the machine stop and does not continue on it self.

Hi,

This problem is most commonly due to the motor. The motor has an internal switch called a centrifugal switch that senses when the motor is up to speed.

The second cause could be the start relay (this is present on some but not all models), this is part of the start button you push and is less expensive than the motor, it can be checked with an ohm meter to determine which component is faulty.

If you can send me your model number I can pull up the wiring diagram to determine which type of start component is on your Whirlpool. The model number can be found on the tag just inside the door

Dryer won't stay on

The motor centrifugal switch is not switching from the start winding to the run winding. The switch should stay in the run winding when the motor picks up speed unless power to the motor is interrupted or cut off. The switch is replaceable on most dryer models but sometimes it is an integral or built-in part of the dryer motor and failure of the switch requires the replacement of the motor. Indicate the exact model number of the dryer for more accurate troubleshooting and repair advice.

Hi my dryer buttons seem all good but as soon as i start the spin it spins for a second then stops then it beeps repeatedly

Whats brand dryer is it? Older style or newer style. Is it the regular machanical timer style dryer or the new computer led light style dryer? If it the regular machanical timer style type, then you saying when you push the start button it starts but once you let go of the "push to start" button it stops. Is this right? In that case is could be a bad motor. The centrifigal switch in the motor is probably bad and isnt holding to the "run winding" in the motor internally.
