Question about Bronica SQ-A Medium Format Camera

Open Question

How do I get the spare spool out of my bronica sq-a?

I'm new to medium format so I'm more than likely doing something wrong. But all the manuals I have read just say to lift the spool up and out, pushing up to the right. But Mine wont budge and the little square on the side wont open. What am i doing wrong? Is there something I need to press as I take it out?

SOURCE: Bronica SQ-Ai shutter problem

There could be a number of issues with this problem. Make sure the contacts at the rear of the lens and those on the body that connect with those on the lens are clean and straight. If so, the problem may be in the shutter within the lens. There is a magnet inside the shutter that sometimes becomes contaminated and fails to hold the shutter blades open for the selected shutter speed. The face of the magnet may need to be cleaned. There are also timing switches that sometimes go bad or need adjusting. These internal problems need to be taken care of by a competent technician since the lens needs to be completely disassembled. I have also seen these shutters go bad and need to be replaced. Let's hope that's not the problem because it will be difficult to get a new shutter for the lens--but not imposible. God luck.

SOURCE: shutter stays closed on bronica 645 etr medium format

Since the problem occurs with several lenses it is not a shutter problem. Taking a picture, the shutter closes, the mirror comes up, the shutter reopens and closes. Signals from the body cause these actions. It is probably a bad connection or broken wire in the body.

SOURCE: Bronica SQ A The plastic 'double exposure' lever

I doubt if you will find a suitable material unless you switch to making one out of metal. Brass would be my choice.

They are still easily available online.

Here's one supplier that I regularly use. Even if the supplier is no use to you, you'll see the many other model numbers for the same battery.

Camera cocks but will not fire. New batteries

Is there film loaded? Bronica cameras feature an interlock that will prevent the camera from fully firin when not loaded, when no back attached, or when the dark slide is in the back. Some models have a small flip-switch that doubles as a double-exposure switch on the side that can be used to dummy fire the camera to test fire it.

If that doesn't work, consult a tech. The electronic's in these cameras go bad qute often these days.

Just starting out with medium format. We bought a second hand Bronica SQ-A from a reputable dealer but the shutter will not **** in 'Normal' 'single exposure setting'. Cocks fine in Multi-exposure setting,...

Sounds like a problem with the single/multi "switch".
Film should not wind on in "multi" setting.
Back to the dealer - if he is reputable, he will get it fixed.

Depending on where you live, your best bet is one or more of the following: 1) eBay 2) your nearest Tamron distributor/service centre (Tamron bought Bronica in the early '90s and may still cary spare parts). 3) local camera repair centres

Shutter not Cocking?

Try removing and re-attaching the lens. IIRC, the actual shutter mechanism is part of the lens assembly
